^ For sure, I would've prefered a return to the stealth oriented gameplay but apparently you can still sorta do it so I won't complain too much. The whole "growing your settlement and clan" thing seems like they're trying to ape RDR too much and I don't really care for stuff that just sounds like vapid busywork personally.

But the real problem seems to lie in AC not really knowing what audience its even aiming for anymore. There seems to be two camps from what I can see - people who are only interested in the historical sandbox versus those who are much more invested in the present day storyline with very few people in-between. Ubisoft is trying to unsucessfully balance the two even now with Valhalla having both sides apparently but I keep seeing people say that they would prefer AC just stick to one or the other in each game.

    Pretty much.

tbh, I can't remember the last time I diligently followed a AAA game. Quarantine should be helpful with clearing backlog but it is sometimes hard to maintain motivation.

A few months past since, but I missed Baldur's Gate 3 footage.

The movement options and environment interaction is the kind of stuff that really makes an CRPG.
Looks as though it blows away all previous D&D CRPGs, though bar higher than ever for any modders to do anything though.

F for the demo guy's TPK, bad rolls and early build bugs

Between this and Cyberpunk all kinds of itches be scratched...

I am cautiously optimistic. The past few years have taught me to not expect too much from modern CRPGs, especially the ones that try to build up too much hype. Of the whole lot, two were really good (Divinity 1 and 2), but the only one that truly managed to impress me came out of nowhere - Disco Elysium. I mean, I knew it existed (the developers even announced it at the Codex back when it was called No Truce With the Furies), but I would never have expected it to be so good.

Disco Elysium is a gem, but I'm honestly surprised at just how much praise it's been getting. Originality aside, it's still fairly unpolished.
That aside, cautiously hyped about BG3. Been a long time fan of Larian and the Divinity series, so the accusations of "Original Sin 2.5" don't really bother me (plus I never played OS2 anyway).

So much cautious. CRPGs been that bad?

checking out Divinity, it seems I've missed out on detailed interactable RPG worlds. I see how BG3 is clearly a development on Divinity, but is that a bad thing? The high detail and interactability, all big budget turn based RPG adaptations should be at least as good.

Just binge-played a runthrough of Disco Elysium myself this week and loved it, but I honestly had no idea it was possible to run until halfway through the second day and thought Kim was making fun of me when he asked me why I run everywhere I go during the first night debrief

D:OS2, while certainly a fun game, had massive issues in both gameplay and story department
people who have reservations about larian being able to deliver the-western-crpg with decent story and gameplay are completely justified

I see. Interesting observations. Story these days is inevitably hit and miss. Currently seems compelling, but writers may go off the reservation at any point of the story.

It's early access end of the year, so hopefully the exposure to complaining hordes will keep the gameplay tight.

Baldur's Gate is a big name to live up to and frankly I haven't enjoyed a really good isometric RPG since NWN2 (buggy mess that it was). Pillars of Eternity was decent, but the combat was ass. Tides of Numenera, meh. Original Sin, combat was a treat but it could really have used a more structured storytelling approach. Age of Decadence, great but too small. Tyranny, good but most of the same combat issues as Pillars+ relies a lot on replays to get the most out of the story.

Mind you, I might just be getting older and crankier. But replaying Planescape:Torment never gets old!

Heard a surprising number of people praising that recently, I guess I'll have to give that one a go next.

I miss the days when trailers would actually explain what a game is about and why you would want to play it. :/
