Do you hear that sound? That rumbling in the distance is me trying to sprint into the future that is Wednesday...

I wonder which they'll announce: Silent Hill mobile? Or Silent Hill Pachinko Remake?
Prepare for despair.

Something seems off about this. They lowballed her and then went and got one of the marquee VA's in the business? That feels less like them being cheap and more them wanting her gone. Maybe they wanted to pull a Solid Snake and get some name recognition in there? Platinum isn't as in love with Hollywood as Kojima, but maybe they thought it would help boost sales? Or maybe she was just difficult to work with? I'd say a sexual harassment thing, but if it were she would have opened with it, given all the other dirty laundry she aired.
It'll be a concert announcement for January, where at the end they announce a 24 hour stream in May, at the end of which they announce they're porting that buggy collection edition to current consoles without fixing any issues.
Why yes, Atlas HAS ruined my hopes for Japanese game announcements.

Yeah it's a pretty peculiar story. I gotta give her some credit for coming out and saying to boycott the game. Like holy fuck did she just burn bridges. This could really hurt her in the industry. It does sound like a "We'll give her a deal she can't accept to get rid of her without straight up replacing her on our end" or something. Does sound like they treated her like shit though. You're gonna have a lot more pirating I guess. Though this might just boost sales in the end since exposure.
Edit:
What a train wreck lol.

His rules being: Tweet in English and get blocked. He's been doing that for years, to the point that a stretch goal for 101 remaster was deleting his block list.
Blocking so many people Twitter bricked his account thinking it was hacked, though? Fucking hilarious.

It may not be relevant news to you, but it's still news.
Is anyone familiar with standard voice acting prices to give me a general idea of how bad we're talking here?

Apparently, they've always been terrible for video gaming voice acting (something which VAs have been talking about for nearly two decades, it seems), but it seems that USD$4.000 is terribly low even by those standards? Jim Sterling compared it to the VA for GTA 4's main character getting USD$100.000, for example.
As I understand it, the pay is based around time in the booth, so someone in an open world RPG (especially a western one where they voice everything) would need way more dialogue than an action game with a single 6 hour story.
But then you get stuff like the Jujustu Kaisen movie where the MC only got $150 for it, which is fucking insane.

Don't VA also do multiple takes for each recording so the employer can choose which they like best? I wonder how long something like Bayo3 would take. Multiple iterations of a character and probably like a 10-16 hour game?
Man, then you realize you have outliers like big name actors such as Keanu Reeves getting paid 30M to voice a character. Or the Mario VA getting paid in the hundreds of thousands for his one liners in a game lmao.

She's said before that Bayonetta 1 took four 4 hour sessions which, if we go by the rates in those tweets, ends up being exactly $4000.
Bayonetta 2 wasn't much longer (might've been shorter, actually? I didn't play it), so I'm going to assume the there isn't much difference there.
Obviously, one would assume the success of the game and her notoriety as the voice of Bayonetta for the last 2 games would've incurred better pay, even if the increase was minimal. I can only assume the game is shorter, because she said $4000 was their final offer.
In any case, her situation does more to show how the industry treats these actors as a whole than any kind of personal slight against Hellena. Still horrible though and I hope this controversy actually ends up changing something for the better(it probably won't).
While I think normal VAs are treated badly (and contemptuously), the pay levels she is talking about is $250/hour - hardly terrible. If it were a full time job (and yes, I know it often isn't) that would be $500,000 a year - pretty frickin' rich. Even at an average of a mere 4 hours per week, 10% employment, that's $50,000 per year; slightly above median US income.
I think many VAs should be offered a lot more, because they do a good job. But celebrities getting huge payouts to do a shitty job (Armatige III) is bullshit. Changing VAs to save a few hundred (or even thousand) bucks on a game is bullshit. Treat it as an important part of the game, like the art, writing, or level design, and pay for quality, damnit!

It's still news that involves a videogame, though.
This isn't even "Overwatch 2 tops pornhub search results" or "PSO2 on Gamecube has more users presently than the Metaverse" tier tangentially related. This is someone who worked on past entries of this series talking about why you shouldn't buy it.
