From what I've heard Japan doesn't really do it that much differently, with the top talents getting decent pay and everyone else struggling. Which explains how you get some people who only take one role a season and others who are in everything. My guess is we don't really hear about as much because they know that the quickest way to get a career ruined is to bring up how the company mistreats you.

It's not like they don't make a livable wage, assuming they get a few roles every year (and if they don't- that's show business). Anyway if the industry grows, so will recognition for the profession as a whole, and so will opportunities (for appearances in cons, panels, shows, whatever).

People should have learned by now that trickle down economics don't work simply because nothing ever trickles down.

The ones who do bring them up, are usually those who made it so big that it wouldn't matter if they got a company mad at them, the company would be crazy not to hire them.
But that in itself is a long road of possibly bankrupting yourself trying to make gigs work while staying financially solvent in the meantime (the panel Yuffie and Sonon's VA had last year at Otakon was very interesting).
So while yes, it IS basically show business, it reflects on the fact that our society is still very much a "use people up whenever you can" type of environment. Not even getting into how terribly people in the service industry are treated every day when they are necessary, yet people can shell out for entertainers.
The very simple and idea that people need to have stability in their lives to function is superceded by greed and yes, people's want to make themselves kings of a sort through more expedient avenues to wealth (which is why there is an ever increasing amount of younguns wanting to get into vtubing, around the same time desire to seriously put regular streaming as a serious leg of the entertainment industry).
Not to preach, but its a twisted quagmire of reasons that a re-evaluation of the job market and paying people what they are worth should be done.

The more I see of Sonic Frontiers' story stuff the more I'm excited for it. Its feeling seems to really be replicating the Dreamcast-Gamecube era of Sonic I've missed so much. I was so happy to see the Tikal flashback in this video.

Hopefully the game plays well, it's the first Sonic game I've been interested in for like 12 years.

What the hell. They gave knuckles such a good animation video lol. What that video really did was make me really want a Knuckles game again. Exploring the ruins of Angel Island would be dope. I agree it has that Sonic Adventure vibe which was the only sonic series outside the 2d games(Original, Mania etc) that I really liked.

Is there any word on whether or not you'll be able to play as anyone other than Sonic?

I don't think so unfortunately.

I actually haven't been keeping up with info on this game too much until recently. I knew it existed but wasn't really interested, but then a week or two ago I saw a screenshot of Super Sonic fighting a big giant monster and realized that just maybe this game will have soul after all. Then this cartoon came out today. I still don't know too much about the game itself but I'm pretty sure the idea is saving Sonic's friends from these ancient precursor robots. I have no idea if you'll be able to play as them when you do or if it's all Sonic all the time.

If this game is successful, maybe just maybe, we might see more characters return as playable.

If nothing else, the soundtrack for each boss in Frontiers is quite a banger, and Knight's theme in particular caught me off-guard towards the end when the melody suddenly goes melancholic. Gets me teary-eyed.
