Wow, what a fucking mess. All I knew was that Eternal's OST wasn't as good as 2016's, I had no idea there was this much drama behind that.

I'm sure that people are gonna highlight some other announcements, but I want to highlight this one.
My only concern is that they might make it too Souls-y (by which I mean get rid of the movement and verticality, as well as make it too melee-oriented), but I hope that they manage to integrate its unique gameplay features with what they learned from their newer titles to make it something truly special.
I'm just happy that something like this exists.

My friend and I were pleasantly surprised with Armored Core. More Street Fighter was good, and Bamco was having an excellent night.
That kid getting as near to an influential developer as he did is rather unnerving past the tasteless memes, means someone who didn't have silly intentions could have done whatever. I'm sure the memesters are getting on Keighley, but that type of stunt has a real chance of souring relations with visiting devs, even if it was a good message he wanted to share, based purely on security protocol issues.

Jedi Survivor got a release date (March 17 2023) and a new trailer and I'm somehow less hyped about it than I was before.

Wasn't the reason Platinum even made MGR because Konami tried to make it a cut anything game and it it kept crashing the engine when there were too many bits and shards to keep track of?

IIRC one of the Starkiller games had the same issue.

I remember being young and baffled by Armored Core III's depth so I gave up on it. Eager to try out this new one and hopefully get hooked so much I emulate the rest. Or maybe I'll get a jump on that early next year...

The thing with putting that level of cutting in your game is that it requires so much work to get right that it will inevitably warp your game around it (just like MGR combat was trash besides the cutting stuff and no I am not taking that back), which you don't really want to do with a sequel. Further, adding this kind of thing in an established IP requires having extensive back and forths with the marketing, branding, IP protection etc dudes, which takes up even more time and if there's one thing modern devs do not have, it's time.

But limitations placed on developer by rightsholder or publisher do not matter to me, as a potential customer, whatsoever. The only thing that matters is the game itself. I'm not going to pitybuy it because of how evil ea or disney to the devs or whatever, right? The only way i'm going to be interested in the game is if the game itself piques my interest.

Right now, there are only two ways to make a good Star Wars game - make a really good, gameplay-wise, game, or fully take advantage of the IP and make a decent, but very immersive game. Now, i understand that developers, being slaves of both Disney and EA at the same time, don't really have a carte blanche in terms of creative freedom here. However, that does not matter to me. I have not played Fallen Order, but i've seen a few ours of its streams, and from the trailers and the streams it was very clear that the developers don't have what it takes to make a really good game of that type (or they would have done it with the fallen order). Now, in my opinion what i saw was kinda hot garbage, but apparently it did decently and gave the devs a second chance, which is fine. They have another chance to make a decent star wars game, but they don't have the skill required to make a really solid game. So they could make actually immersive star wars game and use the franchise to kind of alleviate their own inadequacy.

There is, however, an issue with making immersive star wars game in the year of our lord 2022. Usually, a company making franchise game wants to lean in on the franchise and take advantage of it. However, given that Disney has already crashed it with no survivors, the only way to make an actually immersive star wars game is to go completely original, in different direction than the trainwreck that star wars is now. Which they kinda did already in the first game. So, if you can't lean into ongoing story, you have to lean into the world.
The world dictates that lightsabers look cool and cut everything. But thats very clearly not the case with the game. The game, due to low level of developer competence, is copy paste dark-souls in star wars skin. Its not a very good copypaste, because it looks like star wars, but does not feel like one. Because it does not feel like one, the skin is wasted on it and all that is left is very poor execution. When you make a ripoff game in a franchise skin, you need to make concessions on both parts, which developers are failing to do. Which is why it looks loke shit and probably plays like shit.

I always thought it looked more like the modern God of War than Dark Souls, with it being a very long cinematic with occasional bouts of basic combat, platforming and puzzles.
