Saturnalia dates back to about 217BC
No, that's when they did the reform. Before that it had been purely Roman, and been around for who knows how long?

the Romani to the mid 3rd-century BC
Yes, if you're talking about the Romani as the migrating people, no if you're talking them about as a group.

And I'm not being peeved off; I'm just pointing out important issues. :P
Or what you perceive as issues, since, for example, I didn't feel like it was an issue.

Lugh's still older, since he's been around as a general idea in Celtic religious beliefs, and the actual origin of the Romani people, in terms of time is entirely unknown. Unless, of course, you want to go into genetics and the like, and that's just silly.

Everything's an issue if it's brought up, Verg. If a character has a power that is "screw the rules, weak are strong" then yes, people are going to bring it up as an issue. That's kind of a ridiculously vague power, all told. How would someone like Gilgamesh fare? What about Iskandar? How long does this NP last? Why would anyone even use this power, given that it would alert the world to magecraft?

Fragarach is only as old as the timeline in Odiheadh Chloinne Tuireann. If you can get me that, I can believe that Fragarach is older.

    To that we agree.

Gilgamesh and Iskander would probably fumble a bit at first, but then proceed to butcher King of Fools? Like I said, it's mainly centered around bringing forth a chance through trickery and such to Assassin so he could momentarily gain advantage over his opponent. And to be honest, it's not that more vague than many other powers in Nasuverse. I could have given it all the little details to the smallest one, but I decided it was more in style for Assassin that not much was revealed, only what happened. And to the last question.......are you seriously asking that when we've got NPs like Excalibur being used?

There's a difference between "Giant blast of light that don't hurt nobody" and "the entire town is turned into a deranged form of itself." Also, how long it lasts is a very pertinent question.

From the description you gave, it basically appears that Assassin can beat up anyone so long as they're normally strong, with the apparent caveat that weak Servants are heavily boosted.

The range is two kilometers. And it's not like the people inside are thinking they are doing anything weird, it feels natural to them. Since it is, inside the NP. And I guess it would last 30 turns or something. Maybe less.

To the contrary, it's said that physical attributes and abilities are not changed, so yeah, a strike from Herc would be still strike from Herc. However, it gives Assassin an advantage he would not otherwise have. His enemies are more prone to mistakes and he is able to get away with more, risking his neck and surviving. Plus that rules are going topsy-turvy and being disregarded.

*Ignores the last two pages of discussion*

    *Looks for Servant to post*

    Yes, how about this one.

    *******
    *******

    Hēi Bi W Chng (黑白无常)
    Class: (False) Ruler

    Gender: Female
Height: 168 cm (White) 160 cm (Black)
Weight: 52 kg (White) 49 kg (Black)
Three Sizes: 81/58/84 (White) 85/58/81 (Black)

    Alignment: Lawful Neutral

    Appearance:
    * Xie Bian (White): A young woman with pale skin, white hair, red eyes and legs that seem to never end. She wears white thigh highs with frilly blue hems, a white strapless one-piece that resembles a school swimsuit and bizarrely huge, detached white sleeves with blue borders. She also wears a tall white hat with gold adornments, a big belt of ceremonial rope with a pair of ceremonial demon-like masks tied to it, and two hair ornaments shaped like blue roses, large enough to hide her ears.
    * Fan Wujiu (Black): A young woman with black hair, elfin ears, blood red eyes and a body as shapely as that of her white companion. Two red, sharply curved horns adorn the top of her head, from which complicated teardrop-like extensions protrude out of. She wears black thigh highs, a black strapless one piece with gold and red hems and ample cleavage, and floor-length black sleeves with flower motifs. Her shoulders are protected by black pauldrons shaped like demonic heads.

    Black White
    Strength E D+
    Endurance E D+
    Agility B B+
    Magic A C
    Luck E D
    Noble Phantasm B B

    Class Skills (shared):
    * Magic Resistance: Grants protection against magical effects.
B Cancels spells with a chant below three verses. Even if targeted by High-Thaumaturgy and Greater Rituals, it is difficult for Ruler to be affected.
    * Presence Detection: The skill unique to the Servant supposed to supervise the Holy Grail War. The ability to detect other Servants and local mana sources.
D+ A low rank for a Servant that, while suitable for the role, was not supposed to claim the position of Ruler. The Hēi Bi W Chng are aware of a Servant summoning the moment it happens. They may also sense how many Servants remain at any given time and the gender and elemental affinity of every Servant, if any.

    Personal Skills (Black):
    * Sphere Boundary: A technique in which, by use of Qi, one perceives the circumstances of his surroundings, and can make his own existence vanish. For those who have mastered it, unification with the world and even making their figure naturally transparent becomes possible.
A++ The nigh-supreme ability of a high-level spirit that embodies the concept of yin. Unification with the world allows for miracles such as extrasensory perception to several kilometers, large-scale manipulation of ambient energies, ultra-long-range spellcasting and complete erasure of presence.

    Personal Skills (White):
    * Chinese Martial Arts: A Chinese rationality. A value that measures one's mastery of the martial arts that made becoming one with the universe as its objective. Its difficulty to learn is of the highest level and, unlike other Skills, it is at A Rank that one is at a level where he is said to have finally "learned it".
A+ Complete understanding of Taoist martial arts and mastery of the Eighteen Arms of Wushu.

    Personal Skills (Shared):
    * Synergistic Destiny: The skill unique to those Heroic Spirits that can only be summoned as part of a pair, such as Romulus and Remus or the Dioscuri. A supernatural resonance of souls that allows the bound companions to share perceptions and thoughts. Higher ranks provide greater benefits, but the sense of individuality is lost.
C+ The partners can share perception and communicate telepathically to a distance of up to eight kilometers. Bonus effect of rank-up to Endurance and Luck when fighting together.

    Noble Phantasm (Black):
** r Y B D Lin The Gentle Blade that Guides the Virtuous to the Underworld (, Second Grand Elder Great Scythe)
    Type: Anti-Unit/Anti-Army
    Rank: C+
    Range: 2-3/1-100
Maximum number of targets: 1 person/∞

The monstrous scythe of Fan Wujiu; an awkward choice of work implement for the less martial of the two Underworld guides. The part that connects the curved blade to the snaith has been meticulously crafted to resemble the head of a fearsome demonic beast equal parts bird of prey and dragon. The blade itself, tinged a bright red, looks like the awesomely sharp beak of an ancient avian predator. The dark-colored snaith is shaped like a J-letter, the curve pointing in the direction opposite to the blade.

In spite of its fearsome appearance, the scythe is in fact a protective weapon. In its Anti-Army function, the invocation of its name creates a Bounded Field centered on the weapons current position. The size of the field is defined by the wielders will and prana capacity. The Bounded Field ensures that souls that lose their anchors to the material realm for whatever reasonmost likely death and/or destruction of the bodyare properly dispersed and returned to the Root. Absorption, redirection, transmutation and any other form of soul-tampering is impeded within the Bounded Field. However, the creation of such a large scale effect implies a trade-off with effectiveness: particularly large souls might not be directed towards the Root quickly enough to be protected from external tampering; and particularly powerful magic rituals can overcome the protection of the Bounded Field.

The passive Anti-Unit function of the scythe is identical, but substantially more powerful, as the effect is focused solely on the victim of the blade. Upon invoking the name of the blade, Fan Wujiu can make a single attack of power far superior to what she could accomplish without extreme magical reinforcement (C-rank), at no cost of prana to herself. A creature killed by this attack will have its soul safely delivered to Akasha, no questions askedan absolute commandment impinged upon the soul, irrevocable and irremovable by any power other than the will of Akasha itself. In a way, it is the worst possible Noble Phantasm that could be wielded in the midst of the Heavens Feel ritual.

    Noble Phantasm (White):
    * D Y B Chn Zhng The Banner Swaying before the Gates of the Underworld (, Great Grand Elder Zen Weapon)
    Type: Anti-Unit
    Rank: D+
    Range: 2-3
Maximum number of targets: 1 person

The monks spade Xie Bian uses as her weapon. Despite its charmingly ornate appearance, its owner wields it dexterously and with deadly efficiency. The neck of the polearm connecting the bluish silver spade to the dark blue stick is adorned with an elaborate ornament of gold and embedded lapis stones resembling a cross made of circles connected at their edges. The opposite side, which should carry a crescent blade, instead ends in a bizarre golden mask of somewhat demonic appearance, whose mouth holds a blue and white banner with ancient runes sewn along its surface. The spells inscribed on the banner are the only spells Xie Bian knows and can use. The list includes ancient curses, spells associated with distant transference of energy and information and, most importantly, the thaumaturgical principles and incantations of the original form of Tao, from which all Taoist and onmyoudou magic came from. The runes are in fact a thaumatugical spell engine of divine origin; they act as an independent magic crest, which simplifies the process of spellcasting and reduces casting time roughly by half (High-Speed Aria).

    Noble Phantasm (Shared):
    * Wj r Tij Anthology of the Dual Nature of Existence (無極而太極, The Supreme Polarity that is Non-Polar)
    Type: Anti-Unit
    Rank: B
    Range: --
Maximum number of targets: 2 people

The externalization of the chimeric legend of the Hēi Bi W Chng which, despite its many variations and expositions throughout time and space, remains firmly embedded in the principle of the dual nature of the two eternal companions and their duty as guides of the Underworld. Most appropriately for its very nature, it can be considered two separate Noble Phantasms with completely different effects acting in unison.

In its first aspect, it is an addition to the Hēi Bi W Chngs Synergistic Destiny skill. Upon invoking this Noble Phantasm, the two partners share the effects of their Noble Phantasms: Xie Bians spade can direct souls to Akasha and Fan Wujius scythe displays the ancient spells as glowing symbols on the flat of the blade.

The second aspect is a reinterpretation of the two spirits role directing the proper destination of soul and spirit. As entities closed connected to the yin-yang duality, the way this second aspect of the Noble Phantasm empowers them is also divided into two possibilities according to the gender of the opponent they are facing:

    • Against a male opponent, the white guide Xie Bians attacks drain the enemys prana, while the black guides Fan Wujius attacks disrupt the connection that anchors the soul to the body. While an ordinary human will be inevitably killed even by the slightest touch, spiritual beings such as a Servants are allowed an Endurance roll to make a conscious effort to maintain their metaphysical stability. Spirits with Endurance A or higher are not affected by this effect.
    • Against a female opponent, the roles are reversed: Fan Wujius attacks drain prana, and Xie Bians attack forcefully separate body from soul.

    Setting Notes
The two guides of the Underworld, who escort all souls, both good and evil, to their proper judgment at the hands of the Lord of Hell, according to the millenary Chinese tradition. The White Guard of Impermanence, Xie Bian, hunts down the evil souls that refuse to accept their death and remain in the mortal realm to stalk and hurt the living. The Black Guard of Impermanence, Fan Wujiu, gently leads the souls of the good to the gates of the Underworld. With their dual natures, they separate the yin and yang components of spirits and souls, thus ensuring that all souls properly make it to the halls of their Lord.

The story of how the two friends, Xie Bian and Fan Wujiu, became the guides of Hell has been told and retold thousands of times. It exists in dozens of different forms across different locations and periods of history. Sometimes they are law enforcers who lost a prisoner during a transfer and whose search ended up in sad death. Sometimes they are constables who die after preventing the British from spreading their opium market throughout mainland China. Sometimes they are simply a pair of very close friends, and Fan Wujiu finds her death while waiting for Xie Bian to find medicine for her. In her grief upon finding her dearest friends corpse, Xie Bian takes her own life. Regardless of the narrative, the constant element is Fan Wujius death and Xie Bians subsequent suicide.

The original story (in this setting) goes all the way back to the first emperor of China. Xie Bian and Fan Wujiu were the attendants, concubines and bodyguards of Ying Zheng, the young man that would eventually become Qin Shi Huang. At the age of 21, while King Ying Zheng traveled to the capital of Yong, the false eunuch Lao Ai attempted a coup with the support of Prime Minister L Buwei. Lao Ais men aimed for the young kings life on the road. King Zheng and his two faithful concubines escaped multiple ambushes, but assassins were rapidly closing in on them and a final, dire assault was imminent. The man that would become emperor came up with a plan: they would feed false information to the peasants, who would tell the assassins that King Zheng and his women would split and take different routes through the forest to confuse them. They would also leak the location of a certain bridge where the three would supposedly meet again. However, only one of the women would actually reach the bridgeKing Zheng would take a completely different route back to the Qin capital while his attendants captured the assassins attention.

It was a suicide mission, and the two women, loyal to Zheng and to each other to the end, accepted their fate without hesitation. Fan Wujiu was the one chosen by a coin toss, and it was she who was felled by the assassins expecting the threesome at the bridge. By the time they realized they had been fooled, King Zheng was already well on the way to gathering his men to go after Lao Ais supporters. Xie Bian, who had led her own pursuers on a merry chase all over the forest as she killed them one by one, eventually reached the bridge to find her best friends corpse surrounded by the bodies of those she had manage to take with her. In one last act of loyalty and love, instead of trying to make her way back to her liege, Xie Bian took her own life right in front of Fan Wujius corpse, so that her lifeless form would fall on top for one last, eternal embrace.

However, the planet had other plans for them. Unlike other Heroic Spirits, who are bound to the Throne of Heroes until the time comes for their abilities to be of use, these two were assigned a very specific job: to intervene whenever souls are being denied their proper return to Akasha for whatever reason. They cannot be everywhere, so their performance is far from ideal, but the two girlfriends, now bound to each other for eternity, perform their duties with patience and dedication.

    Keywords
Magical Talent: Of the two, it is Fan Wujiu who has significant talent for magicwhich is troublesome because Xie Bian is the one with the Noble Phantasm that acts like a book of spells. The White Guard of Impermanence is no slouch, however, focusing instead on qi-based abilities to reinforce her body. The plus-signs on her physical parameters reflect this emphasis. Together, they make for a decently balanced team, with Xie Bian acting as the front-liner while Fan Wujiu offers medium-to-long range support.

Meanwhile Archer would have to unleash UBW.
Why? He sword-rains Caster perfectly well without it. Lancer probably survives, but I doubt he's going to be killing Archer either.

Man, this far in and we're starting to nitpick whether or not the specific details of hilariously impossible abilities are in line with how the Nasuverse works? Just go with the flow, guys. Drown in your fan-fiction and die.

Daneel, that is an awesome Servant. You always come up with some impressive things. I may need to refresh my memory, but I think this one takes the cake so far. I liked that you came up for a Class Skill for Ruler, and it's one that makes perfect sense for the class (and is a lot more interesting than Magic Resistance). Overall, definitely one of my favorite Servant ideas, especially given I have no clue who they are. The aesthetics of Yin and Yang work perfectly, and lend itself to an interesting idea.

And I believe I told you this, but really like your Servant. Sure, the one NP is tricky to explain, but I think it'd make for an interesting story. It's topsy turvy, and kind of screws with reality and the way that people deal with things in general. Not like it'd turn anything into a win for him flat out like some others, so I like it due to it requiring intelligent use as well.

Oh, I never looked into S/F much, I didn't know they had full on sheets even. :P But interesting that he has that. Still, think it makes sense as a Class Skill for Ruler.

I find it kind of hilarious that Five is arguing that a character is fanwanked. Not that I don't disagree with him, mind you. It sounds way more powerful than the mere Luck boost that Verg makes it sound like.

Another great, Daneel, though I do have one question (and it sort of relates to the "canon" Ruler, Janne, as well). Aren't they kind of weak for Servants who are supposed to officiate a Grail War? I get that the scythe is a Servants' worst nightmare and they can share that effect, but their physical stats are so low you'd think any decently strong Servant would pulverize them in a one-on-one. Do they always fight as a team to compensate. Janne was kind of weaksauce for a Ruler as well. An NP that kills herself? Don't know what Nasu was thinking.

They don't. They do have a chapter of story written out and it mentions Enkidu's Presence Detection ability. It also details a phone conversation between the police chief and Alexander Dumas while also explaining Dumas' ability to write NPs into existence in more detail.

They are "Ruler" because they fit the Ruler archetype. At the same time, however, they cannot be Ruler. Or more like, they are not the Heroic Spirit that should have been "Ruler". The Church Supervisor fooled around a little too much and summoned something that should not be. Hell, she summoned heathens when she was supposed to summon Sir Percival!

I have returned with another profile. After playing a lot of Infinity Blade I decided to give the MC his own sheet. Enjoy.

    -------------------
    Class: Saber
    True Name: Siris
    Alignment: Neutral Good

    Father, I will avenge you.”
    Statistics
    Strength: B
    Endurance: C
    Agility: B+
    Magic: C
    Luck: D+
    Noble Phantasm: C+ (A+)

    Class Skills
    Magic Resistance
    Rank: C
The ability to cancel or diminish the effects of magecraft used against oneself. Wearing the Ring of Ice and Fire grants Siris moderate protection from most magical spells. Spells ranked D and lower are dispelled while magical damage is lessened.

    Personal Skills
    Eye of Mind (True)
    Rank: B
Calm analysis of battle situation and conclusion of action during a tight spot through “theory of battle”. Faced with enemies far stronger then him, Siris relied on reading his opponent’s actions and capitalizing on their mistakes. Foes will find their attacks parried and their strikes dodged as Siris continues to observe their fighting style.

    Mana Burst (Light)
    Rank: C
Using a technique passed down through his family Siris gathers his magic energy and releases it as an intense burst of bright light. While granting no statistical boosts, the radiant flare does inflict a momentary stun to whomever Siris is directing it towards. To overcome this skill requires a high ranking skill that wards or negates visual obstacles.

    Spell List
    Fire
    Rank: C
    Type: Anti-Unit
Target unit is engulfed with magical flames that cause burn damage over several turns. The fire cannot be put out by mundane means and must be extinguished by magic.

    Ice
    Rank: C
    Type: Anti-Unit
Target unit is assaulted by blizzard winds that will steadily lower one’s physical condition. If one’s MGI is lower than the spell rank, the body is trapped in ice and must be escaped from.

    Heal
    Rank: B
    Type: Support
Siris uses the ring’s prana to rejuvenate his stamina and restore his body to near-peak condition.

    Noble Phantasm(s)
Ring of Ice and Fire Instant Spell
    Rank: C
    Type: Support
A magical ring Siris found on the body of one of the God King’s champions. Three spells are stored within and can be used by its wearer at anytime. By expending the dormant prana inside the ring, Siris can cast one spell without incantation. After one usage the ring must restore its prana for one full day before it can be used again.

Infinity Blade Bane of the Deathless
    Rank: C+ => B+ => A+
    Type: Anti-Unit
The sword of the God King, tyrant and ruler of Siris’ homeland. Not much is known of its properties and forging, but its power is unmistakably “god-like”. The Infinity Blade bypasses any concept meant to prolong, delay, or extend a target’s life, bringing a swift end to their existence. However, its current state is lacking compared to its true power. In order to restore the Infinity Blade to its strongest, Siris must slay enemy Servants or Masters and absorb their souls into the sword. With each Sacrifice the rank of the blade will increase until reaching A+, at which the sword will have achieved its maximum power.

    Details
For decades Siris’ family sent their sons and fathers to battle the God King, dating back to the first sent: Acharin. None had succeeded as the previous ones were killed by the champions or by the God King himself. With his fate seemingly written in stone, Siris ascended the steps to the God King’s castle as his forebears did. Despite overwhelming odds, the young warrior battled his way through the enormous keep, slaying every one of its champions, and managed to reach the main chamber where the God King waited.

Together the two men fought and clashed until, unexpectedly, Siris overcame the tyrant and slew him with his own sword “Infinity Blade”. With his dying breath the God King warned Siris that because of his passing, nothing stood in the way of the other Deathless and their wrath.

The God King’s warning echoing in his mind, Siris began his journey back home but detoured down into the castle dungeons. Unlocking the cells with the Infinity Blade, Siris came face-to-face with several Deathless held captive within. After dispatching them, Sirius entered the last door and beheld a laboratory filled with containment tubes….

Containing countless bodies of the God King.

Confused by the spectacle the young king slayer was soon ambushed by the room’s guardian, a metallic being unlike any Siris had seen before. But Siris overcame the guardian despite its overwhelming power. However, from the ruins of the enemy arose the true form of the guardian of the God King’s secret:

    Acharin, the first sent.

Contrary to belief, Acharin did not die at the hands of the God King but accepted the choice given to him: to join the God King and offer his bloodline as a means to power the Infinity Blade. As each Sacrifice came to the castle and was killed, the sword absorbed their soul and became stronger as a result. In the end, the God King hoped to create a weapon powerful enough to kill The Deathless.

    And he succeeded.

Seeking to make Siris another Sacrifice, Acharin attacked his descendant. But he was defeated and absorbed by the Infinity Blade. With the God King and his champions gone, Siris departed the castle and journeyed back to his village.

With the Infinity Blade in hand.

I think that any Master that summons him is going to flip his shit when he finds out how the Infinity Blade works, lol. Otherwise, fun read, I've been playing a hell of a lot of Infinity Blade recently. Trying to max out the achievements before I move on to Infinity Blade 2.

Servant: So let me get this straight: your sword absorbs the souls of the Servants?

    Saber: Yes.

Servant: What the about the fucking Grail? What powers it now?

    Saber: ......Shit.

    lol, thanks Mcjon.

Yeah, he's surprisingly well balanced, but he's otherwise extremely counterproductive unless killing him means the souls of the Servants he slays are then freed (in which case he's practically begging his Master to betray him in the end and painting a big, fat target on himself for other Master/Servant duos).

Too bad, he looks cool. Maybe I should play Infinity Blade...

Well I guess any person/Servant will do for the Sacrifice. Hell, Siris could probably kill the Master to power the Infinity Blade.

Somehow... I don't think that will endear him to his own Master. Granted, I know you mean killing enemy Masters to power the sword, but I'd personally be nervous knowing my Servant can betray me if he's desperate enough for a power-up. Not to mention he'd probably have to kill nearly all the other Masters to equal the power of just one Servant (unless its a Master with a ridiculous amount of prana like Illya).
