I think you're right, since Nasu has a company and Gen doesn't.

I always found it hilarious that they were fanboying hard over each other as early as 2002

That's like fighting Avenger with grail mud. It would never work.

Fafnir, the Draconic Guardian of the Gold
    Berserker
    Alignment: Chaotic Mad.
    Likes: gold.
    Dislikes: thieves.
    Talents: architecture (formerly)
Natural Enemy: everyone who wants his treasure. His master.
    Image Color: Black.

    STR: B+ MGI: C
    END: B+ LCK: D
    AGI: C NP: B+
    STR: A++ MGI: A+
    END: A++ LCK: D
    AGI: C+ NP: B+

    Class and Personal Skills:

Mad Enhancement (D): raises basic parameters in exchange of hindering mental capacities. In the case of Fafnir, it takes the form a monomaniacal obsession with the ring Andvaranaut. It raises the ranks for the STR and END parameters, but also causes speech impairment and long-term memory loss.

Magic Resistance (A): cancel spells of A-Rank or below. It can be used only under the effect of Schrecken Tarnhelm.

Monstrous Strength (A): is an ability possessed by monsters and beasts. It raises the STR and END parameters by one rank. It can be used only under the effect of Schrecken Tarnhelm.

Breath of the Dragon (B): the torrent of mana released by a dragon – the strongest of the Phantasmal Races. In Fafnir’s specific case, it takes the form of a flow of poisonous mana that envelops the body’s dragon, killing everything around him, to the point of actually damaging inorganic matter. Only the cursed Rhine Gold, protected by its own very strong magic, cannot be corroded. It can be used only under the effect of Schrecken Tarnhelm.

    Noble Phantasm:

    Tarnhelm: Schrecken
The Dragon Kind, Embodiment of Corruption
    (B+-rank; 1 person; anti-unit)
The magic helmet forged by the dwarf Mime, and it will eventually fall into the hands of Fafnir along the whole treasure of Alberich. A sturdy-looking helmet that covers the whole head.
Its true power goes well beyond simply turning the user invisible: its true purpose is to conceal the owner’s identity on a deeper level than exterior appearance, until the very existence of the wearer becomes a mystery down to the conceptual level, to the point that not even him can recognize himself anymore.

This state of existential vagueness allows the user to alter his very own essence in the most unusual ways: it becomes possible to bring up the inner self, the idealized self of oneself and thus to assume almost every conceived form (provided of course that the power output for such a transformation doesn’t exceed Tarnhelm’s capacity)… it’s even possible to dispel your own presence, confusing it with the surrounding environment, only to retrace it and reappear in another place.

It’s obvious, then, that if the user doesn’t manage to properly identify and exploit the helmet’s powers, its use can lead to unexpected consequences.
Such is the case of Fafnir’s.

While under the influence of the Ring, and later on of Mad Enhancement, Fafnir’s imagination has become severly hindered. Inspired by the very circular shape of the Ring, the only thing he can think of, the only obsessive thought that pervades his mind, is how to better defend his treasure.
Thus Fafnir became a giant monster-serpent that surrounds the mount of gold with his body, preventing other beings to come near it.
As previously hinted at, this transformation doesn’t just concern the exterior appearance: the reptilian form Fafnir took his the symbol of his corrupted soul, fallen victim of greed and stagnation. Thus Fafnir’s monstrous look happens to represent the dark side of every sentient being, the deepest, hidden level of consciousness, where the monsters of the Id live. The symbol of failure and shame that we all fear and try to suppress.
It should be noted that the “killing of the monster” at the hands of the “hero” – the idealized superior human – is a common theme, almost omnipresent in every country’s mithology, symbolizing the hope for mankind to transcend its limit, its shallowness, and to defeat the most abject and monstrous part of oneself.
Therefore Fafnir’s mere presence and sight induce a psychological effect of fear and repulsion that can be fought only if in possession of appropriate mental defenses. Once this Noble Phantasm has been invoked, it’s not possible for Fafnir to return to his humanoid look anymore.

It’s being said that, by consuming the flesh and blood of a creature trasfigured by the effect of Tarnhelm, it’s possible to acquire great magical powers, including life-saving clairvoyance and invulnearability. Berserker’s Master tries to exploit this side of the legend and, when he doesn’t incite his Servant to battle, he’s used to keep the dragon restrained, and consume small bits of Fafnir’s flesh.

    Rheingold Andvaranaut
    Source of Invaluable Treasure
    (A+-rank; 1 person; anti-unit)
The legendary Ring forged by the dwarf Alberich out of the cursed Rhine Gold. None in fact is allowed to experience happiness if it’s in his/her hands. But Alberich, disdaining the Rhine maidens’ advice, nonetheless decided to seize it for himself, falling prey to his greed. Later on, when Odin had to pay the giants Fasolt and Fafnir for building his home, he sent his brother and nototious trickster god Loki to extort the Gold from Alberich, in exchange for sparing the dwarf’s life. However, parting from it, angry to the gods’ arrogance, he put a second curse on the item, sealing a fate of unhappiness and death, as well as craving, for whoever looked at the Ring.
This curse was so powerful that Fafnir in the end killed his own brother rather than sharing the huge trasure.

In and of itself an immense treasure, the fabled Rhine Gold would eventually be expanded even more by Alberich, after having enslaved the subterrean race of the Nibelungs so that they could forge magical items for him and collect other valuable objects from every place (it should be noted that dwarves are creatures usually associated with mountains and the underworld, places symbolizing sources of valuable elements such as iron, gold and gems).

It’s being said that whoever comes in possession of this Ring will have an enormous power, making the bearer able to potentially rule the world. While this statement may be an exaggeration, it’s sure that this teasure doesn’t include only valued and exquisite objects, but also magic and enchanted items that, if fallen into the hands of someone willing to use them, could surely raise the overall offensive power of said someone.
The Ring in itself is a key, a portal for the treasure, allowing the bearer to materialize it in every desired place from the small pocket dimension in which it’s being stored, and identifiable as the inside of the Ring.

A cursed Ring that brigs to the surface and feeds the bearer’s lowest emotions and instincts, all that is usually buried and repressed deep into the Id. Although Berserker’s Master couldn’t have been considered exactly a saint even before the summoning, it wouldn’t be too absurd to suppose that the sadistic tendencies the Magus displays over the course of the Holy Grail War (especially in regard of Fafnir, his rival for the ownership of the Gold) are caused, at least partly, by the nefarious influence of the curse.
Clearly the Magus overstimated his own capabilities.

The one thing in the whole world Fafnir desires most, the catalyst used by the Master (along a specific variation of the summoning incantation) to summon the fabled shapeshifting dragon as Berserker. The Master keeps the Ring hidden, blackmailing Berserker in fighting for him. If he’ll manage to kill the other six Servants, he’ll return the Ring to him (although this promise can’t be trusted); the Master itself uses the magical items to gain an advantage when fighting enemy Masters.

Now this is summoning an anti-hero! Best Servant/Master Team ever! /sarcasm.

One of my oldest ideas for a Servant profile. Nevertheless, it became quite difficult to write down. Also, I'd like to thank I3uster for the assistance with German language.

    Fafnir you say?

    Proceed.

EDIT: In the second paragraph of Tarnhelm, you wrote "the user" twice.

You son of a bitch, I also made a character sheet for Fafnir but didn't post it, sucks to me then. I planned him as a Rider though... maybe I'll put him in here later.

I can see though why you would put him in a Berserker class container, he's pretty mad for his gold an everything...

Like the Fafnir template. You do a really good job of making a solid outline for both his role in the Holy Grail War and his master's. Definitely would be interesting to see in action.

    Sirens (Aglaopheme and Thelxiepeia)

    Alignment-
    Neutral Evil

    Class- Caster

Bio- Twin maidens with the lower bodies and wings of birds and the voices of angels. They were devoted servants to the Greek goddess of agriculture Demeter and were assigned to be handmaidens to her daughter Persephone. However, they failed to protect her when she was kidnapped by the death god Hades to be his wife. Demeter cursed them into half-bird forms and bound them to a barren island in the Mediterranean. The curse gradually warped their warm love for life into cruelty. They still have great fondness for life’s beauty, but are jealous that others can enjoy life’s pleasures while they cannot. Therefore, they chose to use their blessed power of song to lure passing sailors to die. Because they are easily identifiable in their bird form, they opt to take a human form at the cost of certain skills and parameters, but can revert to their true nature if necessary.

    Parameters:

Strength (E-)- Rank reduced in human form.

Agility (C/D)- Rank reduced in human form.

Endurance (D/E)- Rank reduced in human form.

Prana (C/D)- Rank reduced in human form.

    Luck (E)

    Noble Phantasm (A)

    Skills:

Item Construction (Class, E-)- The ability to create magical items. Very low because the Sirens had only minor training in this manner under Demeter and lost this skill in their exile. The only magical items they are somewhat skilled with are musical instruments.

Territory Creation (Class, E/C/A)- The skill to build a special terrain that is advantageous to oneself as a magus. The Sirens normally lack the knowledge and personality to make an adequate workshop, but gain an A in the rank when applied to Forsaken Island. Rank reduced to E in human form.

High Speed Divine Words (B)- The use of the language of the gods to bypass the needs for magic circuits to cast spells. See Sirens’ Song.

Monstrous Strength (E/D/C)- A skill common to monsters. Temporary boost of strength by one rank. Increased use of the skill can lead to deterioration into a more monstrous form mentally and physically. Rank E when disguised in human form. Raised to C with Forsaken Island.

Protection from Nature (D)- A blessing bestowed by the nature goddesses Demeter and Persephone in exchange for the Sirens’ devotion. Grants protection against natural elemental forces, particularly ones that have ill effects on plants. Rank low because the Sirens were ultimately rejected by Demeter.

    Noble Phantasms:

Sacred Mystery of the Spring- Handmaidens of Kore (Support, D/C)- The symbolization of the Sirens’ initial role as handmaidens to Persephone, daughter of Olympian Demeter and goddess of spring. This rather diverse Noble Phantasm gives them power over the natural fertility of spring. For instance, they can create new plants, boost pre-existing ones, and control plants in general. However, their power over plants only applies to the theme of growth associated with spring; although they can withdraw their power to stunt the plants’ growth, they can only make plants grow, not wither. Rank low because the Sirens were ultimately rejected by Demeter. Rank increased if they are in human form, as it harkens back to the time before they were cursed.

Forsaken Island (Support, C)- The Sirens can only use this if they can access enough natural prana in a single area. They can then activate a Marble Phantasm that trasnforms the area around them into the rocky isle they lived on. The island itself is safe to inhabit and has no particular threats. However, its sides are barricaded by sharp rocks, and a constantly raging sea swirls around the island. Anyone who approaches the island must have B rank or higher in Luck, Magic Resistance, or another special ability applicable to the situation, or else they will automatically be wounded by the island’s defenses. The island can function as a strong fort and trap against opponents, but it is also a prison for the Sirens. They are able to fly over the rocks, but can only travel in a twenty meter radius of the island. In addition, the island increased their Monstrous Strength rank to C. This also has the effect of automatically reverting them to their half-bird form.

Aria of Eternal Longing- Sirens’ Song (Anti-Army, C/A)- The power that the Sirens are most infamous for: their captivating song that led countless sailors to their deaths. The song is utterly beautiful, beyond mere mortal words. The lyrics are actually High Speed Divine Words and automatically cast charm spells on victims. Magic Resistance can protect one from the effects, and it is also possible resist by hearing superior music, though it must outrank the Noble Phantasm’s power. Those affected by the song are compelled to stay in range of the song, and will actively move closer to the music if possible- even if it leads to certain death. Victims find it inconceivable to avoid the song or hurt the singers of it, and may turn violent if deprived of the music. In addition, long-term exposure to the music slowly saps a victim’s strength. A single Siren’s song is of rank B, but should the two sing in harmony their duet will reach A rank. Because the legend of the Sirens over the years has shifted to more appealing human forms, the Sirens do not suffer a penalty when using this Noble Phantasm as humans. If pressed, the Sirens can increase their power to A+, but this is a risky gamble. Should any of the targets present at the start of the song survive to its end, the Sirens will automatically die.

Rough version of a sheet I have been working on.

Critiques are welcome as there are many things I have yet to decide on what is appropriate (in particular ranks are subject to change)

    Servant Caster

    Heroic Spirit: Euclid of Alexandria

    Parameters

    Strength: E

    Agility: E
    Endurance: E
    Magic: C+ (A++ with the 13 tomes)
    Luck: C
Noble Phantasm: Ex [Not sure on this one, would be willing to have it be A, or even lower if that is felt to be appropriate, but given the description I have I think that it is certainly possible it deserves Ex]

    Class skills

    Territory Creation: C+
Caster only has this ability due to his status as a servant, though through use of his noble phantasm he can raise its rank.

    Item Creation: D+
Caster only has this ability due to his status as a servant, though through use of his noble phantasm he can raise its rank.

    Personal Skills

    Revelation: C

    Skill equivalent to
Instinct, a sixth sense regarding battles; however, "Revelation" accommodates all matters related to the achievement of a goal (for instance, choosing the most suitable path while traveling). Because there is no basis to it (or so she thinks), it cannot be explained to others clearly.

He alone looked on beauty bare. Rank C+

As immortalized in the first line of a sonnet about him, Caster was capable of understanding and viewing reality for what it was with no interference. So great was this power that it was due to this that he was able to write his book Elements based on what he saw. Sadly for the study of magecraft he was not himself a magus in the proper sense, he reached the great heights he did solely through mathematics. It has been theorized by mages studying the phenomenon that the counterforce of Alaya was in fact established during his lifetime, and that he was the cause of it. The explanation as to why is that it was feared by the will of humanity that another might view and understand the workings of Gaea as succinctly and clearly as Caster, and that such would likely only bring ruin. This feat has granted him a form of protection from all forms of illusion, obfuscation, and misdirection. His senses cannot be fooled and his perception cannot be dulled. Though while this may seem powerful, it merely allows him to see things as they are, it does not grant any extraordinary capability in the form of enhanced senses. His ability to see things plainly does not grant him any greater capacity to sense than a normal human, but it allows him to ignore the fumbles and foibles that befall even the most observant of people’s senses.

At this rank it is possible to see through all forms of magecraft, and natural phenomenon that would normally cause one to misperceive events through the senses. Even divine powers are negated. Unfortunately this only applies to things that are subject to the logic of Gaea, and as such otherworldly constructions and beings may be able to negate this ability, though with enough study Caster could ascertain the properties of such a mystery and become immune to its future manipulations.

Accredited with work not his own: C rank

This skill is given to heroes who are given credit for the work and toiling of others. Caster gained this skill because of the apocryphal additions of books XIV and XV to his Elements.

At this rank it grants benefits equivalent to Information Erasure of the same rank except it causes those who attempt to discern Caster’s identity through mundane or magical means to reach a false conclusion as to his identity. Divinations of high enough rank can identify the existence of this skill, but will not grant further insight into his true identity. Use of the noble phantasm Στοιχεῖα, Elements will seal this skill permanently.

    Noble Phantasm

    Στοιχεῖα, Elements-The Thirteen Tomes

    Anti-Personnel / Anti-World
    Rank: Ex

Caster’s signature work in the field of mathematics. Two thousand years later it is still taught, not as a piece of history, but because there is no better device with which to broach the subject. The work is made up of 13 books, the books contain postulates, definitions, theorems, and proofs.

Each book contains enough history, and power, to itself qualify as a low to mid-rank noble phantasm when possessed by anyone else. As the creator of these works Caster can utilize them without restraint and at full power.

The books are able to draw on a well of power that represents the amount of time his followers would spend reading and interpreting his works. Each book would normally be capable of increasing its possessor by between a half and a full rank, but the collection together grants Caster access to a nearly limitless well of prana to draw from.

Each book consists of over four hundred propositions, over a hundred definitions, and several postulates. Each of which has behind it the force of a mystery, and despite not being a magus in life Caster may actualize mysteries using them as aria. In terms of thaumaturgy they can be seen as somewhat analogous to spoken runes, each one having an effect by itself, though a limited one. When combined they can create extremely complex and elaborate mysteries, and with so many of them the number of possible combinations are staggering.

Most of the mysteries actualize in the same manner, the various Forms (in the Platonic sense) are pulled from where they rest in Akasha and are given an etherial, but real, substance on the material plane. These constructs are made of pure ether, and unlike normal physical structures are perfect in their dimensions, lines are perfectly straight with no width, points are true singularities, and so forth. The existing dimensions of these constructs can be manipulated by Caster with mere thoughts. In his life he used these capabilities to teach and demonstrate to his students various structures and relationships.

The true power of Elements however is in the axioms. All noble phantasms are capable of being super-charged and 'broken', most phantasms when used in such a manner simply gain a temporary but large boost of power before self-destructing. This is not the case for Elements. Because of how integral the work is to humanity’s understanding of mathematics, the axioms proposed in it are integral Alaya’s maintenance of the world. As Elements draws not on copies or recreations of the Forms, but materializes the Forms themselves, breaking it would destabilize the rules that Gaea uses and would cause widespread destruction and warp reality immensely. Gaea is capable of undoing the existence of, and then recreating the rules of Akasha as a stopgap measure, but the damage in the meantime from both the destabilization of the fundamental rules of the world, and then the removal and recreation of those rules would be enormous. While aware of this potential Caster would never willingly choose to destroy his work and wreak catastrophe in this manner, though the same could not necessarily be said of his master.

Στοιχεῖα, The False XIV and XV.

Two additional books were added to Caster’s work. These two additional volumes allow Caster to utilize some of the aspects of his true phantasm without rendering obvious his identity. Like The Thirteen Tomes, utilizing this phantasm grants a substantial boost to his Mag parameter, and he can draw upon additional prana from the two tomes themselves. He may still utilize the same set of mysteries, but their effects are reduced two ranks. The creations made this way are not the perfect Forms given material shape, but crude approximations that are literally constructed. Oddly, these require less prana to maintain due to the less paradoxical nature of a created construct’s existence compared to that of an abstract concept being given physical form.

Sorry man, just had to do this. Reading now.

Okay, someone already did Poe, but it was kind of a disaster, so I wanted to see if I could try and improve upon it. I borrowed a lot of ideas from CCC's Caster, Andersen, since he made for a better comparison than Shakespeare, whose abilities just seem kind of wonky and useless to me. The font and spacing will probably mess up since I'm copying it from a document, so forgive me if I miss a few errors.

    Caster: Edgar Allan Poe
    Alignment: Lawful Neutral

    STR: E
    END: E
    AGI: D
    MAG: B
    LCK: D

    Class Skills:

    Territory Creation: B
Creation of a “Workshop” becomes possible.

    Item Creation: C
Though he never learned much thaumaturgy, he can create literary works that have a magical aspect.

    Personal Skills:

    High-Speed Aria: D
A skill that increases the speed of magecraft arias. In his case, it also influences his writing speed.

    Innocent Monster: C
Indicates the degree to which rumors have distorted the truth, regardless of the user's original will or form. In Poe's case, his strong association with death and the supernatural has granted him limited offensive thaumaturgy that relates to his stories (ie, mostly ravens and raven feathers).

    Necromancy: E
In his life, he did research ways to raise the dead, though was never very successful. Once, he revived a bird, though it died shortly after.

    Intuition:A
A skill that allows the user to ascertain the truth based off of logical conclusions. Involves great knowledge of the human mind and its processes. Despite some errors, Poe was able to write a cosmological theory regarding the birth of the universe that predated the Big Bang theory by 80 years. He was also an expert cryptologist and his sharp analytical abilities showed in his detective stories.

    Noble Phantasm

    Ultima Thule: A Writer's Despair
    Rank: B/A
    Type: Anti-Unit
    Max Target: 2
A Reality Marble reflecting Poe's inner strife. While he was alive, he witnessed the death of many lovers, driving him to the point of near-madness and causing him to spiral into depression. Many of his stories include an element of torture and nearly all focus on death, and this Reality Marble takes the form of some of his tales. Its initial form is an empty, black void, but Caster may use certain words to change its shape, though each may only be used once per usage of the Noble Phantasm.
Amontillado: A dark, musty cellar. The enemy Servant is chained to the wall and forced to watch as the only entrance is sealed before their eyes.
Maelstrom: An open sea in the middle of a brutal storm. The enemy's prana is forcibly drained from them as long as they remain trapped within the storm.
Pendulum: A cramped cell with a hole in its center, the bottom of which cannot be seen. Ropes bind the enemy to the wall as a scythe-like pendulum lowers
towards their head. If the Servant can escape that, then the walls become red-hot and begin closing in on them.
Usher: A decrepit, Western-style mansion. The Servant is unable to find the exit to the house and will encounter undead familiars of people known to them in their past. Unless they can break free, the manor collapses, killing whomever is trapped inside.

These traps can only be escaped through the usage of incredible magical power, serious cunning, or if they are able to overcome their fears and weaknesses.

I kind of want to rework how people can escape from those, since it seems a little broken to me at the moment. Comments?

It all seems too OP for a modern magus/hero. If they equal/beat Medea in raw power/magical ability, you should probably assume you have made them too powerful.

Hm... well, I guess that would make sense. My big issue is that I can't really figure out a way to make him less powerful and still be useful. Andersen's stats were something like all Es but with EX mana, though he had no offensive capabilities, but I thought that I could make Poe useful in combat.

Nerf territory creation, the MGI stat and remove the "same effect as some Noble Phantasms" part of item creation(C rank item creation wouldn't be able to do that anyway, you'd need like A rank to be able to do that). The RM isn't actually as op as it first appears; Saber, Gilgamesh and quite a few other servants could probably break out of it, through sheer power alone, without too much trouble.

  14. #5294
And done. Thanks, I appreciate it.

On an unrelated note, I have this question that's been irking me: what are Servants made of? They have human qualities (blood, muscle) but are clearly much sturdier. Are they made of Ether, or is it unexplained?

Servants seeming sturdier is at least partly a reflection of all the heroes just being tougher than modern humans.

On an unrelated note, I have this question that's been irking me: what are Servants made of? They have human qualities (blood, muscle) but are clearly much sturdier. Are they made of Ether, or is it unexplained?
    Never explicitly explained.

There are some hints here and there.

Mana, Ether, and maybe Third Element.

Any suggestions on how to improve the Sirens?

Added a picture for the Sirens. Any comments on the template itself? I'm interested to know how I did at designing them as Servants.
