no tm book is going out in comiket because TM doesn't have a booth this year.
However, all the TM works that should have come out during comiket are in stores right now. As of 1hr ago.
So they're actually easier to get hold of earlier I guess.
Strange fake manga is coming out later January. Strange Fake vol 3 will probably come out Summer Comiket.

Nope, just happened to see Tamamo's discussion back there, page 138, and I felt the need to clarify since it's not clarified enough... -.-

    Reeling it back in though.

So Strange Fake volume 3 is coming out on Summer...

Welp, that will be a really long wait then. O.O

Volume 2 left us hanging in the battle back there.
    Not dealing with it...

    Why even try?

I'm currently rereading Gilgamesh and one of the first descriptions of Enkidu is:

    "His whole body was covered thickly with hair, his head covered with hair like a woman's;
the locks of his hair grew abundantly, like those of the grain god Nisaba."

This is from an edition of Gilgamesh called "Gilgamesh - Translated from the Sîn-Leqi-Unninnī Version".

So Enkidu's hair is right (in style if not color???) but I think the original image does involve more a very hairy generally masculine image, though the Strange Fake representation has grown on me.
Imagine that the world is made out of love. Now imagine that it isn’t.

Imagine a story where everything goes wrong, where everyone has their back against the wall, where everyone is in pain and acting selfishly because if they don’t, they’ll die.
Imagine a story, not of good against evil, but of need against need against need, where everyone is at cross-purposes and everyone is to blame.

Strange Fake Enkidu looks like a cross between a twink and a hippy, imo.

Fate has always been taking pieces from the legend and reshaping it in another way. Enkidu is a shapeshifter; because he was domesticated by a whore, who basically "made him human" that night. So they're like "So he wasn't human before, he became human, so he can transform".

Take part of the legend they found interesting and make it more important or somehow relevant. Instead of a feral man made from clay he's a literal shapeshifting clay beast who took the appearance of the human that civilized him, Shamhat. It's not too much of a stretch to call BS, and it's a fair take on it.

I gather you're reading a translation, so FYI the last (and biggest) chapter of volume 1 still isn't translated.

If you mean the old edition then it's missing 2-3 chapters.

What I read was a light novel, I think? Not the manga, which I haven't seen yet. The document I had was something I found linked on the translation forum from a while ago. It seemed to be a complete thing? I am interested in the manga, but that's what I've been referring to.

    Yes, the light novel.

There was an older edition that was published, it's the published version of the April Fools' novel and probably what you read. Nakulas translated that.

Then, Narita sat down and wrote a few more chapters and some extra scenes, and it was published again as the final Volume 1 of FSF. It's got stuff like Francesca, Zelretch and Caubac, the first battle of the war, and Ayaka's arrival in Snowfield. This hasn't been fully translated yet.

    - - - Updated - - -

    OK, let me clarify.

The fully translated file that's been out for a while is the first 7 chapters of volume 1. The end is a bit different because it sets up an RPG premise with the reader/player being the final Master.

The newer novel adds a couple scenes like Francesca at the police station.

Then after Lancer is summoned, this happens to mark the departure from the RPG premise: ch 8 - Extra

And then the war begins: ch 9 - the war begins

Followed by one more chapter which I haven't finished writing up.

Well, true to the mythos Enkidu should probably be very ugly and demonic looking. He is supposed to be Gilgamesh antipode: if the latter is 2/3 god, Enkidu is 2/3 demon.

Actually it's my understanding that it's less that he's 2/3 demon as that he is 2/3 beast. I've been reading about how apparently Sumerian literature was kind of preoccupied with this idea that the trappings of human civilization were not derived from human development but from slow adoption of things the gods did as understood by predeluvian sages, or something. Long story short, the contrast is more wild/civilized than good/evil or heavenly/demonic. Both are perceived as ideals and their clashing and then finding harmony with each other is a major theme.

Also thank you mewarmo for translation explanation!

It could be possibl interpreted as this, but...

    1. In the epic, Enkidu was created by goddess Aruru, also known as Nimnah. Just like first men, he was made from the mud, and here is a thing - there is an earlier myth, which says that when Gods decided to make humans, Nimnah already tried to do this and ended up with bunch of grotesque beings. It was Enki who made proper humans.

    2. When epic describes Enkidu birth, it says that he was "of silent birth". Silence here written as qūltu, which denotes sinister silence, usually associated with death. For example, there is common idiom about "king's weapon brings silence", i.e. kills enemy. Similiar thing said about child-killing demon Lamashtu, and the word itself can mean "silence, brought by sudden death".

    3. The text also says thst Enkidu is "from the force of Ninurta". On itself it does not have much meaning, but there are strong textual parallels description of Enkidu and description of Ninurta's enemies (particulary mountain demons), whom are said to have joined Ninurta after he defeated them (which kinda parallels Gilgamesh).

    4. On surviving images of the epic, Enkidu is usually depicted as a man of low social status and beast-like features, such as horns and claws etc.

I will just link to the post rather than quote here, but thank you again mew (is that what you like to be called?) for explaining to me the other things you had translated. I read Chapters 8 and 9 and really enjoyed them. I don't know anything about translating so it's a compliment with a grain of salt but I am honestly just awed by some of the prose in it, and I'm sure that I have you to thank for that, knowing what you're doing and that kind of thing.

My heart hurt just a little when Enkidu reacted so strongly to sensing Pestilence's presence. I guess I expected FSF to be a bit more almost-parody given its premise, but I find some of the things that are happening in it really poignant.

I also think that the way Pestilence/Death's way of operating is a really nicely described, eerie thing that creeps me out a little.

I look forward to anymore that is translated, and thank you for the work already done!

Welcome to the Narita. Despite always writing mainly comedic or humoristic LN, you can always also enjoy it as serious action/adventure series. Though I admit Strange Fake is more serious than Baccano! or Durarara!!

    Muchness.
You never know when those things come in handy...
