Mostly this because Richard for all intents and purposes is a fake Artoria, even if he has Iskandar's personality and at least some of his philosophy.
But even more importantly, because Narita loves to make references.
And I like that, even if some of the references go over my head.
References are cool and all, but too much of that devalue the work for me personally, as it feels more like this thing relies on connections and callbacks to other works (be it superior or not) to sell. References that are somewhat stealth and not so obvious are the ones I like, references that are so obvious and basic make me cringe.
For me, it shows Narita's dedication and love for the source material, which is heartwarming to see. Also, if it's part of an established series with a long history, why not embrace that, but also try to create a strong work?
If the writer respects and love the source material, they should write a work that is up to the quality of the source materials without relying way too much on nostalgia of long term fans to tell his stuffs. Nasu suffered from the same problem with Extra, but the moment he started to do his crazy shits, he did fantastic with CCC, a work that can stand on its own even if you never heard of FSN or Extra, despite being his sort of "Heaven's Feel" callback for Extraverse. That is good use of callbacks and references. You can just look at the material book and see how he blend all references he could into the story without making things feel weird.
As far as I've seen atm, I don't think this story is as "strong" as most other entries in the series, maybe equal to Apo if you want my comparison. Some of the references are good, but some fell flat on me due to being way too obvious and unnatural. Sure this is still a long running work, and I'll be glad if when it ends it turns out to be fantastic, but so far I'm not too impressed. But on the bright side, I kinda enjoyed this more than FZ.

i think for the most part it’s just Narita having his fun
EDIT: Also tbh i just view it as chaos with a theme at the end like, I don’t know how coherent an ensemble cast will be; FSN was Shirou and the heroine’s stories while FZ was Kiritsugu. Fate Apo was Sieg’s. Like we have Sigma, Ayaka, Tine and it seems like he wants to elaborate on a lot more
