My running theory is that this is supposed to be that hypothetical Berserker Richard that Ayaka was lucky she didn't summon, the version of him that is completely insane. My only question is whether this is a reference/fanservice thing so that Narita could explain literally what he meant by writing that, or whether this is gonna happen to him in Volume 10... I think both are equally likely, but if the latter is true then the chances of Richard and Ayaka heel turning just got a lot larger imo.
Well, I have much less interest in the Norman Yoke as a matter of fact.
IIRC Alcides mentions something about being able to sense Richard's connection to Melusine in F/SF and so I was going to postulate the idea that the Grail Mud mixed with Richard and brought out the fairy-ness in his blood allowing him to transform into a fairy-beast man similar to Wodewose and Boggart. But then Narita came out with "the source is that I made it up" for FGO so all of that is now moot I guess.

I'm waiting for the actual translation for his profile, but I saw someone post this on the reddit under his ascension arts.
"The reason he had transformed into a black lion was because, in life, he had committed countless sins and prayed, "God, please expose me to the flames of purgatory until the end of the world." So brave that he was called the Lionheart King, he had no fear. He did not fear crying out in resentment at God, or putting his own heart first and overstepping the ethical barriers of the time - or taking thousands of prisoners by hand over the course of history. That king did not fear having his own soul burned in the purifying flames, or leading an army against his own father, or killing innocent people who did not wield a blade or even loving people."
In short, his Third Ascension is a version of Richard atoning for his crusade war crimes, cool
Dark Souls Trilogy is an accurate depiction of Christian Hell
It's only suffering you don't enjoy it.

He doesn't have internet friends, he converted his computer into a pseudo-noble phantasm/mystic code so that he has access to pretty much any information he wants.
Surrounded by mountains of old-looking books, Caster was resting his feet on his desk and staring at the screen of a notebook computer with an excited grin.
"Oh-ho, so when ya put the notes and lyrics into the computer, the little lady in the picture sings! Oh, what a time to be alive! The Grail War's got nothing on this!"
He fiddled with the computer for a while, rattling on in that vein all the while. At last, a bizarre tune, such as to waste the capabilities of that sophisticated software, became audible from the computer.
"..."
Once he had listened to it all the way through, he tried listening to songs made by other people for comparison. Then he nodded as if convinced of something.
"Yeesh. My violin teacher told me back when I was a brat, but I guess I really ain't got any musical talent. Can't do anything about that; might as well focus on the Grail War."
With a sigh, he switched the image on the computer screen. A stream of highly-classified information, such as would never normally be lying around on the internet, flashed across it.
[Confirmed that all birds utilized as familiars have revived from apparent death state.]
They appeared to be reports from an organization connected to Snowfield. A long succession of sentences sprinkled with mage terminology.
[Confirmed that all functionality as familiars has been lost. Abnormal spots in various places.]
[No pathogens discovered, but confirmed faint traces of magical energy possessing unusual properties, interpretable as both mana and od. Conjecture that birds we failed to recover have similarly revived.]
[Case category upgraded to C class. Future developments under the jurisdiction of Mr. Faldeus Dioland.]
Following such disquieting statements, still more bizarre documents and footage from Snowfield's local cable station appeared on the screen.
[Received information that police have secured one Heroic Spirit, thought to be Saber.]
"Haha, for real? Looks like we've got another weirdo on our hands!" Caster cackled, playing back what appeared to be a video recording."I got you, brother. After that much of an effect on the world, it's obvious you'd wanna know what your 'bosses' decided. Your goal is to regulate the ambient surrounding the Holy Grail War... the human society here. Screw up and everyone's dead. RIP. You don't want that, do you, brother?"
"Be concise. What do you know?"
For the longest time, Caster could gain information through a network that not even Orlando could identify.
Judging by his subordinates' accounts and general conjecture on Dumas's abilities, Dumas most likely modified stories about his computer, radio, and internet, elevating them into pseudo-Mystic Codes, objects with parameters lower than his usual Noble Phantasms.
The chief was certain of his speculation and thought today was the day to put it to the test, but just when the time was right for the big reveal, he came across a more important question he needed to ask first. What does Caster know?“So you’re finally listening. Or maybe you’d understand better if we talked about that Faldeus dude? Your Kuruoka friends from Japan are a hot topic too, yeah?”
“You bastard… How… How much do you know?”
It was possible to share memories and perceptions between Master and Servant. However, since the chief had completely shut off the link to his Servant, Caster shouldn’t have been able to read his memories.
Then, how had the man come to know so much of their classified intelligence?
Had he come to see what they were scheming and spied on them in spirit form?
That troublesome hag couldn’t possibly have sought a meeting with him, could she?
Orlando was plagued by such doubts, but Caster's answer turned out to be simpler than that.
“These days, anything is possible with the internet and telephone. Aren’t you underestimating modern technology? Did you really think I wouldn’t know how to type on a keyboard?”
“Impossible! There’s no way that information would be on the internet!”
“Never mind that. I have my ways. Bro, you don’t know everything about my Noble Phantasms, right? We both keep our secrets. I thought I’d have some fun, so I showed my hand just a bit.”

Yeah I probably mixed that and the Caubac part.
Thanks a lot for fact checking, once again. I really appreciate.

Honestly it would be really lame if Richard's badass lion ascension and Purgatory power is really FGO only and is never touched upon in FSF.

I get why Narita has to put a disclaimer to prevent spoilers but damn
With only one volume left and so much that needs to be wrapped up in that volume I'm not sure adding this purgatory stuff as well would be a smart idea tbh.
