Something something Flat just escaped Pale Rider’s world and because he died so soon after his soul was captured and sent to purgatory or something.

Not what I think happened but it’s something I could see Narita pulling after he decided he wanted Tez to cameo.

Oh yeah speaking of what were all the worlds in Volume 9? I got:

    1. Snowfield Replica
    2. Kur
    3. Enma-Tei
    4. Root?
    5. Greek Underworld?
    6. Tez’s fog place

    4. I don't think it's the Root (probably); though, I have no idea what it could be. My best guess is either the Abyss or Void/Imaginary Numbers Space, for some reason.

    5. It seems like it. The description sounds like it could be the entrance to Elysium, but I have no ideaa why Cerberus would be there.
You are not immune to propoganda, probably.

Suddenly I'm reminded of one of Flat's babbles in one of the drama CD but it was probably the most "biblical" or w/e Flat's ever sounded (I really can't remember the exact quote but it was something like “someday I’ll do something about humankind’s sins")

is the "sin" being inefficient? whatever that means. God I want to study him under a microscope and talk with him so bad.

Iirc, Narita said Flat would have been eliminated by the counter force if he hadnt met Lord El Melloi. It makes me wonder. In the worlds he doesn't meet El Melloi, does he erase thia and use the code in his magic crest or does Thia erase him and go haywire

My guess is Flat erases Thia (and heck even at Thia's "worst" the counterforce doesn't "know" what to do with Thia. I think it just goes to show how Flat would be without Waver's influence).

Flat bases his morals and ethics solely on what he thinks Waver thinks is right. Reminder that his opposition to using human sacrifice to power magic is "it's not very efficient" as opposed to something like how it's kind of an evil thing to do.

Iirc in Volume 4 he’s trying to save Tsubaki primarily because it’s something Waver would do iirc

    Yeah, that's basically correct.

I do very much like Flat as being a character who can't fit into mage society from being too humane, and yet not fitting in with regular people either because his reasoning doesn't match up at all.

Machines do not lose their worth when a newer model appears.
Their worth (life) ends when humans can no longer bear that purity.

Finishing the The Perfect Run yesterday and seeing Monaco on the post immediately in front of me gave me a whiplash. I will never look at Monaco the same way ever again.

He’s got the spirit to be a good person even if he’s not naturally attuned to being so.

    Genuinely my favorite line:

    His eyes.
Flat’s eyes when he said that were neither the eyes of a mage, nor those of a mere human.
They were filled holes, like something had fallen out, or like they saw through everyone.
When they sensed that presence, unlike anything they had ever felt before, all the mages
understood: the boy in front of them was no mage. He did, however, not seem to be any kind
of monster or puppet; both his body and mind were unmistakably human. Still, the mages’
instincts told them that he was looking at a different “destination.” They could not comprehend
what this man called Flat Escardos saw.
It's interesting to me that Thia said that Flat didn't find humans efficient...and yet, he still deems humans to be valuable (parts). In his own way, it feels like an expression of love.

Goes with general TM Themes about humans that have been around since Hollow and got flatly repeated in OCIV.

Of course I do. I detest them in much the same way that many people feel anxious in the company of their own brethren.

This wicked malice was born from the righteousness that rejected weakness.

For as long as I am worshiped as an antagonist, I will continue to fulfill this function.

And it will remain that way for all of eternity.

Evil is not born. It is created.

Certainly, weak people do exist. But the weak are abundant in any ecosystem, any species. The wickedness of a single soul has hardly any impact on nature as a whole.

Man's greatest strength and worst weakness lays at the fact that the very system he's brought up in is evil.

Human emotion that leads astray and gives him fire.

This guide is just an unassuming somebody, yet it continues to cause numerous apathetic souls to veer off the right path.

Lives which celebrate nothing but existence.

They affirm their prosperity by bringing out a god and cleansing their own malice.

"All the evil in the world"... what a joke.

That is nothing but another term for a human. I am born from humanity. As long as you are human, you will be able to reproduce any kind of evil.

Repugnant individuals, repugnant society, repugnant ideas.

There is no excuse. Living beings should not be able to regard their brethren as evil in the first place.

    Yeah, but―――

“―――Even so, there is still value in life.

Even in living beings which created evil. Even if there is no value in humanity, there is meaning in all of its history that has accumulated up to now.

Even if they stay wrong for an eternity―――as long as these hands are able to do something, surely, there will be someone I can save.”

Like a journey to the stars.

I aim for the distant, distant sky and climb up the long, long stairs.
