It's really not. It is suppose to facilitate better communication regarding which Hurricane is being discussed between meteorologist and people in general. Multiple hurricanes can happen during a single hurricane season, sometimes happening simultaneously. If they weren't named, it would be a jumbled mess in regard to communication leading to more deaths.
I have some questions about the latest SF volume (which I haven't read).
Has Thia already defeated the El Melloi Class, or did something come up that saved them? Because I'm sure they won't last even 30 seconds against Thia.
And also, what happened to Alcides, Gilgamesh, and Hypolite?
The short of it is that Thia senses the flow of magical energy, and the scramble of too many magical energy signatures from too many sources threw him off. It pushes suspension of disbelief that this was enough for an Enkidu level opponent, but that was the proposed matchup advantage.
Unknown what happens to those three, last we saw Gil was making a mega attack at Alcides then it cuts away.
I feel like more than just Flat's lingering fondness for them(which is probably playing a role in it), it's also Thia's repressed fondness for these goobers that he developed overtime by just watching them from inside Flat. I bet he probably developed a little bit of attachment and respect for all of them as Flat interacted with them too, he just didn't realise it.
At least, it'd be sweet if that was the case.

Thia’s main weakness after all is his emotion immaturity. Plus, on his entrance he said he would continue living on for Flat. He literally can’t even decide to live on his own will, so him struggling with making his own decisions is a very apt way to have the El Melloi class defeat him.
This fight would be rendered same as Gilgamesh vs shirou after it is animated calling it now..
"Omg dude is on par with enkidu ..how is he struggling with these people "
Without novel context, that's exactly what would happen
I think everyone is ignoring that those 30 are not normal people, but Mages, and not only that. Mages who far surpass the average Magus. It is true that in normal terms, no Magus would be on par with a Servant, but Rin was never so confident that she could win a fight against a Servant, not even in SN. And let's remember that there she alone was able to defeat Caster and kill Heracles once, and here she has total confidence that they will win.
I think the real answer is that these guys simply know how to deal with powerful beings using their numbers to their advantage.
This, plus the fact that Medea is a massive boomer mage, so the very thought that the opponent mage would even attempt throwing hands against her never even crossed her mind.
Like, the instant Rin throws the first punch, Medea is freaking out internally, trying to comprehend what the hell is going on.
Let's remember that the skinny nerd was "the most powerful witch of the Age of the Gods" according to the novel. She was obviously superior to Rin in raw power, but Rin was more cunning and didn't play fair. We must assume the same is true of the magicians in the classroom Ell Melloi don't seek to compete with Thia in raw power, but rather to play dirty, taking advantage of the fact that there are many of them and they have many different tricks.
