So, here's hoping I'm not the only fan of A Song of Ice and Fire on BL ...
Well, it's finally happened. Game of Thrones premiered on HBO, and let me tell you: IT WAS AWESOME!
It was such a delight to see the book come to life in front of you, and the characters are everything I've ever thought they would be.
Last week I picked up A Game of Thrones because it had one of those "now a movie/TV" covers on it featuring Lord of the Ring's Boromir sitting on a throne. I thought, since I was looking for a new fantasy read (Legend of Drizzt got a bit tiring recently) and motherfucking Boromir of Gondor is on the cover, why the hell not?
It is awesome. Takes a little bit to get rolling (wasn't prepared for the perspective switching every chapter) but manages to pull off the whole political thriller/intrigue thing in a satisfying way while maintaining the medieval fantasy feel. I remember a director or producer for the upcoming series jokingly called it "The Sopranos in Middle-Earth." That's not that far off, honestly.
FFFFF- I missed it. I thought it was suppose to air on the 20th.

I share your pain, my friend (especially since I actually get HBO in HD and forgot to record it). Fortunately, that's what the Internet is for.

Only read A Game of Thrones. Need to get the others.....but why start now? It'll be another 30 years before the series is done.
I've read all the books. I'm going to be cautiously optimistic that the series will be decent quality. At least in the case of Fire and Ice, the amount of violence and sex typical of HBO series is accurate to the original material.
I've never heard of this, but my sister watched it.
She described it as "a creepy incest show with lots of boobies".
That is a gross misrepresentation of the Game of Thrones. Yes, there is incest. And rape. And whores. And sex.
It's not a kid friendly setting, it's very dark. It's not fanservice, it's just shit that would happen in a medieval setting.

Trust me, the sex and nudity aren't meant to arouse anyone. But basically, what mewarm said.
Not really historical at all. But yeah, Dothraki or whatever are obviously based off the Mongols. Raping, pillaging, etc. etc.
But there's quite a bit of fantasy.

I vaguely recall it showing up about every 2 chapters or so.
I should point out that the way it's described is not meant to entice you sexually.
Also, that's an exaggeration.
