I want the actual story because, aside from the modern audience being more cynical and smarter than in the 90s, it would a little disrespect for the French people and the devout Roman Catholics to give it the traditional Disney ending.
It also could break that stereotype that all girls need to do is to act like Disney Princesses to have a happy ending.
Disney does not NECESSARILY shy away from bad ends; when i was a kid, i had a VHS with Disney's version of Sleepy Hollow, and it ended with the mainchar losing his head and never beeing seen again, and the randim douchebag guy getting the girl.
Astolfo is the only possible choice.

Well, good, because I want the original story. I prefer to it against the old sugary stuff that Disney used to pump out.
Well, even some Disney movies that do have good ends have some pretty dark stuff. I cried whenever Mufasa died. Or whenever I watched Dumbo.
I also like those dramatic moments, it sorta makes the good ending satisfying. What I am referring to is some of the morals that they blurt out.
I liked it.
Astolfo excels in both beauty and character, and also has a great bonus feature nobody else among those except maybe Mordred possesses. That and pink hair make him very refreshing Disney princess.
Fiore is close second.
