    Talent tree discussion thread

so as opposed to personal trees, verg is looking for ideas on fleshing out the current trees we already had. I gather he would prefer mostly structured talents that actually are fully fleshed out as opposed to something like "it would be nice if luis could blah blah blah, lets do something like that"

This thread will be used to create ideas and critique others. I am going to start so as to hopefully create a template

from the clock tower group, I am organizing my thoughts into more or less three principle: Researcher, an ability set more concerned with creating new spells and crafting new magics, warmage, a mage better suited for actually casting in combat be it to attack or heal, and enforcer, a mage that blends physical attacks along with potent supplemental magic to become a powerful enemy.

    Researcher:

    Low Tier level perks

    Mastery of principle:
    0/3
Whenever you experience or witness a spell you are able to see the details of, it becomes possible for you to create a spell similar to it relatively easy. Costs associated with creating the spell are reduced by 20/40/60%

    Patient study:
    ??
your long time in exploring magical lore has paid dividends. When researching the methods to creating large scale spells and rituals, you know all the tricks. Once per week, you can automatically locate a tome with a magical principle or spell to use and add it to your repertoire. Further, your natural talents also translate into your studies, and your CAS score counts one grade higher for the purposes of study. (possibly this could have a few ranks to reduce time between discoveries)

    mid tier type skills:

    Practical application
    0/1
By understanding the magical principles of your opponents magecraft and abilities, it is possible to counteract them. once per battle, by unraveling the magical foundation behind an enemy ability, it is possible to instantly counteract it without penalty. The second rank, your knowledge of magic even extends to the foundational aspect of a mystic code, and you can, upon activation of an enemy mystic code, render it useless.

    Warmage

    low tier talents
    :

    Practice and action:
    (0/3)

Your casting ability and magical power is on a different level from orthodox magi, and to face you like one of them is a grave mistake. if an enemy moves to physically interrupt your spell, pay 20 prana, convert it to an immediate instant discharge of pure force to make him pay. further ranks increase the prana input as well as the damage output (40/60)

    Spell amplification:
    (0/1)
You have learned to utilize your art to overwhelm your enemy with pure magical power. pay 50 extra prana to the cost of the spell, increase damage and radius by 50%, or the rank required to avoid it by one.

    Mid tier

    In all forms:
    (0/1)

you know the ways to get the best effect out of magic of all kinds, and that includes your magical arsenal. Pick one mystic code in your possession, it may now be activated twice in one battle.

    Spell bypass:
    (0/3)

You have learned to utilize the magic of your spellwork in such a way that natural resistances become less effective, for each rank, your magic will continue to damage enemies that might otherwise neutralize your thatamurgy (25/50/75%)

    Enforcer:

    Low Tier

    Battle Recovery
    (0/2)

You have learned to draw out a fight and wear your opponents down, in combat, if you launch a spell that misses, you may heal yourself equivalently to an E ranked healing spell, or restore 10 prana to your reserves. At the second rank, if you launch a physical strike that fails to connect, you may do likewise.

    Enhanced resistances:
    (0/3)

your body now naturally reduces foreign influences and actively rejects hostile thatamurgy. The first two ranks, you operate as if you had Magic resistance of a low rank. (E/D) at the third rank, you know actively corrode the ability of special abilities used against you, such as demonic power or reality marble, reducing their effectiveness.

    Mid tier:

    Follow through:
    (0/1)

This is the ability to combine all your skills into a single whole. If you launch a spell no greater then two ranks below your CAS, you may launch an attack at the same turn, though the accuracy of both is decreased somewhat.

These are the current GM approved talent trees

When wearing it, your prana pool becomes unlimited and spells become instantaneous to cast. In addition, you are able to transport a soul from one object to another. However, beware, since if someone were to touch you during this time, they would turn to gold.

Well I had Akio's tree planned out at least in concept as something that had 3 parts already so I guess I can share what I planned.

Suggestion for the tree split, all names preliminary (you can just call them blue oni red oni purple oni if you want in the end, idc)

    Strength

Strength is a tree symbolizing a mindset of "use what you have to the best of your abilities", building a middle ground between Discipline and Pride, showing off mental growth and getting more attuned with your demonic side in equal parts. Thus Strength focuses on the demonic ability. Low tier talents decrease the strain the burst and ability use causes to allow people to stay in burst longer and use their ability more often. Medium-tier talents would allow access to weakened sub-abilities that add a degree of versatility, maybe here boosting the strength of the ability itself could fit already, or a basic Breathing and Walking, hybrid version, making your ability able to easier trump other abilities of the same rank. High tier talents will focus on the increase of strength of the main and sub abilities. The ultimate talent might be the creation of a second Demonic ability, allowing the hybrid who mastered this tree to essentially gain twice the benefits from this tree (at least the parts directly affecting the main ability)

    Pride

Pride symbolizes a mindset of inherent demonic superiority. It's the tree to let loose and get mad, explicitly there to take advantage of one of the main playstyle advantages demon hybrids have over other templates, immense power for a short amount of time. Thus the tree is, contrary to the other two, absolutely lacking in mitigation for the disadvantages of being a demon. Early tree talents might allow things like or to gain the ability to ignore some injuries during burst. Medium tier abilities might allow a form of demonic instinct allowing you to better track and exploit weak points of your opponent or taking in more of your need to "overcharge" yourself for benefits during burst.High tier talents would add things like regeneration during the burst or the ability to dip into Inversion Impulse for a turn. The ultimate talent would symbolize the logical conclusion of the tree, something akin to what Kouma achieved in canon, an existence that can truly be called an Oni and no longer a human with a high degree of mystery. How that manifests (countering every low-mystery attack, plain old +1 to STRAGIEND) is up in the air I guess.

    Discipline

This is the weird one. If Strength is pragmatic and Pride is indulging in your desires Discipline is about mental discipline and being able to suppress the demonic side of oneself. Discipline talents share one major design point: they get either weaker or useless if you enter demonic burst. Yup. That's right. Discipline focuses on Discipline, who would have thought. Low tier discipline talents allow for better learning comprehension and less amount of need needing to be taken in. Mid tier might add martial arts benefits, instinct, mental resistance and concentration perks that only work outside of the burst, here I'd sneak the only Hybrid growth talent in, a talent that rewards you for a won fight with x amount of bonus AP if you didn't burst (as you managed to keep your concentration yadda yadda). High tier would allow weakened usage of demonic abilities outside of burst and add another layer to your magic resistance, maybe even allowing you a way to counter ESP or CW activations as one would be able to counter spellcasting (EDIT: meant the AGI vs CAS interruption, not MR). The ultimate of this tree would be a state that replaces demonic burst, demonic asceticism. It shows complete control over ones demonic side to the degree where the skillset of a demon can be accessed with minimal strain while also allowing to use your rational mind and demonic instincts in unison, allowing a longer duration than the normal burst and special instinct modifiers. Also this state does not count as demonic burst thus your talents stay just as effective.

So we aren't going to have Personal Trees at the end?

Well, IMO, we should at least have some kind of third tree, at the very least, that helps on making our characters more "unique", so to speak, and that could be useful to balance the other trees themselves.

Well then, I guess I'll post my opinions on the three trees we have available, more in general concepts:

I think the Clock Tower tree is worlds apart from the other trees presented. It is somewhat more noticeable when you compare it to the Sea of Estray. In general, SoE's tree seems a lot like a watered down version of the Clock Tower's, specially when you take in account neither Clock or Atlas ones have penalties attached to their talents. There is also the inherent problem that while you keep climbing on the tree, the penalties will start to accumulate.

SoE tree definitely needs an improvement, specially now that personal trees are a no-go, since once you are out of the first 2 tiers, the customization available is very small in comparison to the other two. Mind you, it is not a question of power, since someone like Firo would get incredible mileage out of the first tiers, but I don't see the tree offering much to someone like Will, for example. While I agree both SoE and Taima are going to need to be the weaker trees out of the bunch, due to starting with free Sorcery Trait (which is pretty much the best starting perk of the RP), I think it is important they have as much customization as the others available. I'd say about maybe toning down the Clock Tower tree a bit, but that would result in a rain of stones thrown in my way.

On more general terms, I propose that each faction has one perk that augments the AP gained by training and/or studying, in equal amounts for each faction. Also, while the DHO trees haven't been shown yet, I'd say for each one of them to have a branch dedicated to improving the ESP.

I guess I'll start forming my thoughts here while I'm thinking about it.

First off, I just wanna say that outside of Lotus Meditation, nothing from the China Order tree in particular really feels right for my character. And maybe it's just the whole Qi thing, but the tree in general seems heavily geared towards martial artists (especially when you hit Tier 6). I don't feel it really caters much to anyone not going that particular route.

Maybe something that'd help here would be a more "yin-yang" thing where the tree is split between the body (physical/power), the mind (intellect/spirit), and harmony (balance/Qi). I think more could be done with China Order's decreased ritual prep too. While there are a couple listed in the tree, they, again, feel kinda geared towards people of direct confrontation. More can probably be done with Qi too. Stuff like promoting good health and rejuvenation. Or maybe even augmenting a particular thaumaturgal element as opposed to a physical stat.

I don't really have an issue with talents with negatives. And I don't even have any issue with the powerlevels of the tree.

The issue really is the fact that while the SoE is thematically appropriate for the faction (or what little we know of it), it is of relatively little use to the two SoE PCs that we actually have. I can speak less for KT, but I can tell that for Firo, there are 3 talents in the entire tree that would make decent sense for him to have. Those are both of the Tier 1 talents and Automatic Writing.

Anything else feels extremely out of character to him. Full on Body Manipulation? Familiar spam? Alchemy?

None of these things are even remotely in character for Firo. Heck, I would take most of the talents in the Middle Eastern tree over the Sea of Astray tree in a heartbeat because they just feel... off. They neither play to his inherent theme of a thief (something which ME has in abundance) and they feel extremely restrictive in forcing you to basically either become a potion brewer (although I think China now has better potion brewing) or some sort of Body Horror.

Maybe a branch that deals with some sort of explorer/researcher theme? Something that focuses on unearthing hidden knowledge and artefacts (with a dash of "it belongs in a museum")? Something that is more of an "archaeologist" tree in comparison to the Middle Eastern which has a more Thief of Agrabah vibe.

Secondly, there could something that deals with drawing out the "root" of one's supernatural power (e.g basically becoming your Sorcery Trait) for example. Maybe like regression of your Sorcery Trait/Dragon POWAH into its "source". Not becoming a DORAGON (ala China), but a pseudo Reincarnation deal with a specific Western One (or sort of powering up your Sorcery Trait that you start to become the concept it embodies)? It would still play on the body manipulation part, but it could work on a more broad basis.

I can speak less for KT
I'm in the same boat, the Tier 1 Talents (minus runes) and the Forgotten Talent line is basically all that would fit with Will. Everything else is... out there, but I do like Automatic Writing. Also, I think Mellon has nice suggestions and would amend the problem of the tree... not fitting in with the PCs that the faction has.

clarification from IRC, its much prefered to actually creat and more or less specify locations of talents as opposed to general "it would be nicer if blah blah blah was a thing so lets try to do that" type of responses.

Okay. My try at a Tier 1 Explorer type perk.

    Tier 1

    A Friend in Every Harbor
    0/5

Due to the non-centralized nature of the Sea of Estray, you have traveled across the world far and wide. This has made you extremely talented in making new friends and new connections, regardless of the weird and unique locations or situations you may find yourself in. Every rank in this Talent grants you an automatic Rank 1 R.Link with a new individual. In addition, every rank placed in this talent increases the rate of obtaining rare R.Links by 1/10.

gonna try my hand at some SoE perks, on a magical oddball kind of bent

    Low tier

    Spell twisting
    (0/4)

At time of creation, if one of your spells has a stat check, designate a second stat as well. pay 20 extra prana when casting to alter the avoidance ability. Ranks in this skill increase the rank of spell that can be twisted

    Every nook and cranny
    ???

Your ability to ferret out secrets is unparalleled, in the dungeon, your ability to locate rare monsters and treasure increases by a certain amount

    Where the heart is
    0/5

Unlike most magisters who have to hope the mystic foundations which power their spell work will follow them in their travels, you have learned to work within the system. Each rank of this perk allows you to cast as if in your home territory, decreasing prana cost for all spells by 5 for the first 4 ranks. at the final rank, your spell will always counter any spell of equivalent power provided it does not also have some special backing

(this probably needs some tweaking so as to not overshadow rune master)

    evolving magic
    (0/3)

Your mystic codes and concepts are just as transitory as your mailing address, at creation, it is possible to designate a separate effect for one of your magical devices, However, these can not be utilised at the same time. Each rank of the perk raises the level of magical device that can be augmented.

    Let's see...

    Zen Mind's Eye
    0/3

Requires 3 ranks in Vitality of the Body
Having extensively trained your mind and body in the utilization of Qi, you've become sensitive to this metaphysical energy's presence. Using this acquired sense, you are better able to gauge an individual's particular level of power, so long as they are within a given range. Each rank in this Talent increases the accuracy of perception.

    Transcendence
    0/1

Requires 5 ranks in Vitality of the Body
Your control over Qi has risen to such heights that it now allows for you to achieve phenomena on par with magecraft. Much like the Tao masters of old, at this level of mastery, one can utilize one's own Qi as opposed to their prana as a means of generating nature interference. However, spells such as Reality Marbles are beyond the scope of this Talent.

    Effort, I suppose.

    - - - Updated - - -

    Harmonizing Fortification
    0/3

Due to your particular talents, the Greater Rituals you prepare conflict with the workings of the planet less. As a result, the rituals you perform are more stable and better able to enforce the desired effect before dissipating. For each rank invested in this Talent, stability of rituals is increased.

Random tree thingy, because trees. In terms of explanation, the general idea is to provide options for both self-control and cutting loose. The idea isn’t to cover weaknesses, but to emphasize extremes – both in a general fashion that reflects the biological nature of a Half-Blood’s powers without tying the Talents to “personality” in any way. Basically, it has to suit Fiore’s lack of interest in combat, Akio’s flexible nature, Kagura’s violent nature, and Riko’s explosive style (without being a violent bitch), and so-on.

By the end, this develops into three sub-archetypes: do you identify with humanity, the demon, or the planet?

    Half-Blood Talent Tree

    TIER 1

    Delay the Inevitable
    0/5

Your human will is particularly strong compared to others of your kind, and you can stave off monstrous impulses for longer than they could. Each rank in this Talent provides you with one "pass" that may be used to resist succumbing to your demonic side if you fail to sate your compulsion. These "passes" give you an extra twelve hours to meet the conditions of your demonic impulse and renew at the start of every month.

    Animal Instincts
    0/1

By virtue of how you were born and the blood that runs through your veins, you are a superior lifeform to normal humans, even if only in your demonic state, and your reflexes are honed beyond the limitations of your human body. When you are caught by surprise, if you possessed the means to intercept or avoid the attack had you been using your Demonic Surge at the time, you automatically trigger your Demonic Surge and the battle begins normally instead of granting your opponent the "Surprise Attack" status.

    Recessive Corruption
    0/5

The extent of your demonic powers and the intensity of your demonic possession was not quite as mild as you had presumed, and young adulthood has brought about a period of imbalance. Each rank gained in this Talent allows for you to treat your Demonic Ability as being one rank higher for a single turn, but also results in further emotional instability.

    TIER 2

    Controlled Burn
    0/1

When driven to violence or cornered, animals enter into a frenzy, doing whatever necessary to survive, and without the shrinking fear of pain that humans possess. This Talent represents the ability to rapidly burn through the body's resources in order to fight at peak efficiency, and you can extend your Demonic Surge during combat by spending 20 units of Prana per additional turn. Extensive use of this ability can go beyond exhaustion and result in self-damaging effects.

    Never Beyond Reach
    0/5

Requirement(s): Delay the Inevitable, Can only be invoked by someone with a R-Link to the character greater than 6
There is someone you want to see again. No matter what your motives or why you fight, you cannot deny the fact that you want to see them. When the demon in your blood overtakes your senses and you give in to your curse, you can still be brought back from the madness by the efforts of that person. Each level of this Talent increases their odds of success by five percent, and allows for an additional attempt to be made, up until the number of levels of Delay the Inevitable possessed. Chance of success is halved if you are a Crimson Red Vermillion.

    Territorial Beast
    0/3

In darker times, this might be considered the natural behavior of a predator to map out its hunting grounds, but possessing the intelligence of a human, you are intimately familiar with your surroundings. As your primary tool for mobility is your body, you possess painstakingly detailed knowledge of an area to the point of easily recognizing even minor differences from one day to the next. Each level in this talent allows for an area the size of a ward to be committed to memory.

    TIER 3

    Earthdrinker
    0/5

Even if your thirst is not tied to nature, your existence as a demon-blooded is, and slaking that thirst has the side effect of drawing from the environment the ambient prana around you. For each rank of this Talent possessed, whenever you fulfill the conditions of your demonic impulse, you enter a state of “overcharge”, and gain an additional 30 units of prana for use even if it exceeds your maximum capacity. This overcharge rapidly decays with each passing phase.

    Iron and Silk
    0/5

The greatest advantage of the demon-blooded is their superior physical ability - a narrow field of advantage that quite often becomes the target of an enemy's preparations. In order to continue functioning even against prepared enemies, you have poured your effort into refining the template into which you infuse your demonic power. For each level of this Talent, you are capable of designating one of your parameter values - that parameter becomes "locked" upon a Demonic Surge, and all attempts to increase or decrease its value are drastically weakened.

    Berserker’s Clarity
    0/1

Even a psychopath can demonstrate massively heightened awareness, though it may be in bad taste to call them geniuses considering their mental states. You have refined your mental abilities beyond the point of simply retaining coherent thought while under the influence of a Demonic Surge, and can now repurpose that massively-heightened state of awareness for other uses. You may now choose to enter a Demonic Surge to gain enormous bonuses to mental challenges – keep in mind, however, that this still manifests as summoning your demonic energies, and could startle people around you. (Don’t trigger it in the middle of a bloody math test).

    TIER 4

    Creature of Intuition
    0/5

    Requirement(s): Territorial Beast
The condition of understanding one’s environment tempered with the human notion of “civilization”, when confronted by a new stage to a problem, you can zero in on the correct path to the next stage of whatever you are working on so long as it is within your realm of understanding. When applied to larger mysteries, each level of this Talent grants an additional ward to be designated as territories committed to memory by Territorial Beast, and rumors and mysteries that would otherwise be overlooked become available.

    Faster and Stronger
    0/2

    Requirement(s): Controlled Burn
The rationale behind strenuous exercise is that muscles will tear and be knitted back together stronger than before; for Kishu, whose bodies undergo stress far beyond that experienced by the other races of the Moonlit World, that is no less the truth. Because of your frequent use of abilities beyond your body’s normal limitations, your body keeps repairing itself and making great strides in biology. Each level in this Talent grants you a permanent increase to one of your physical parameters. However, because your body responds to strain in such a manner, you receive a rank-down to all physical parameters during your Rest Period, and the time it takes to recover from a battle is increased by twenty-four hours.

    Life of the Party
    0/5

    Requirement(s): Animal Instincts
Call it pheromones or simply the authenticity of animal behavior, but when you cut loose, you do so in a spectacular fashion, and the people around you definitely respond. Route Link gains when part of a group of three or more people are increased by 10% for each level of this Talent, and it becomes much easier to establish new Route Links in this manner. Each level also brings about an increase in popularity amongst the student body of Athena Academy, and will be affected for better or worse by your actions on OLYMPUS.

    TIER 5

    Nemean One
    0/1

Both demons and humans, if their existences are exceptional enough, can be recognized by nature as “monsters”. A one-in-ten-million lifeform exceptional as both a human and a Kishu, you are formally recognized by the planet as one of the great weapons it has against humanity, and it provides you with support. When under the effects of a Demonic Surge, you gain massive regenerative properties on top of your normal power suite. So long as you retain the ability to utilize a Demonic Surge, even decapitation can be survived.

    Caustic Miasma
    0/3

The caustic, lacerating aura of the demonic breed that creates a damaging zone of violence reflective of the individual’s powers – yours can be likened to a firestorm that rages around you when your powers are active. Each rank in this skill increases the damaging effect of your Demonic Aura, and permits the user to impart durable weapons and tools with the aura’s properties.

    Pride of the Pack
    0/1

Possessing not simply the strength of a great demon, but tact exceptional even amongst prodigious humans, even the scattered communities of the Kishu formally recognize you as one of their great assets on OLYMPUS. Techniques and resources normally reserved for members of individual clans become available to you, and you gain the ability to formally petition individual clans for aid. Though you may supplement your presence with that of powerful allies who under normal circumstances would not work together, be aware that relying too much on the power of others will reflect poorly on you in the eyes of the Kishu.

    TIER 6

    Child of Gaia
    0/1

Requirement(s): Animal Instincts, Territorial Beast, Faster and Stronger, Nemean One
Diluted though it may be, the blood of the Oni runs through your veins. The bond that you have cultivated with the demon that lives in your blood is almost unparalleled in this world, and you are a monster of the highest calibur. Though you cannot be considered one of the Transcendent Kind, your body is recognized as a member of the Phantasmal Race when the demon is in control. Power from the planet in the form of Armor Class befitting a Phantasmal Beast is granted when you enter a Demonic Surge, and it is possible to commune with other agents of Gaia.

    Force of Nature
    0/1

Requirement(s): Recessive Corruption, Creature of Intuition, Earthdrinker, Caustic Miasma
The aura that you possess reflects the scale of your powers and the paradoxical nature of your mixed blood – the dual existences within you of nature and the humans who plunder it. Your Demonic Aura has become amplified to the point that when it is unleashed, it creates localized phenomena around you, and closer resembles a mobile Bounded Field than a traditional aura. Once per day, you can even call on the power of the planet in order to channel its desire to retake nature from humanity and send out a wave of power that annihilates the ambient prana within your twisted aura and poisons the Odic Force of anyone caught in it.

    King of Beasts
    0/1

Requirement(s): Berserker’s Clarity, Creature of Intuition, Life of the Party, Pride of the Pack
The clarity and leadership ability you possess is rare amongst your kind, and your superior communicative ability lends itself greatly to restoring community and order to the scattered demon clans. New Half-Bloods who come to OLYMPUS have a significant chance to gravitate towards you and your ideals, and a sort of unofficial clan starts to form around you. Refining your relationship with the members of your clan makes it possible to pass on known techniques to your followers.

I haven't even read the rest yet, but as a general thought, you might think about swapping delay the inevitable to extending the time between needing to feed, as opposed to a pass system. Like 5 ranks doubles the time. So a CRV could go 2 days instead of one, for example.

EDIT: that may actually be to long, but maybe 50% or something.

EDIT:2 animal instincts is to good for tier 1 at one point, earth drink overcharge maxes out at 150 Prana, that seems excessive.

I'll edit this post as well to respond to comments.

    Delay the Inevitable
Yeah, actually the times specified were chosen for two reasons, one of which being CRVs and the problems they present. The first reason is that it isn't really meant to represent an overall increase in your ability to stave off your hunger, otherwise the implication is that you're suddenly better at overcoming that huge crippling problem that Half-Bloods have. That's also why there isn't a Talent in the tree that removes the compulsion (not to mention Verg has a perk for it that already basically requires the power of love). The second reason is that I wanted it to represent the fact that it's an act of willpower, an inconstant resource, basically. When you force back the hunger, it's a huge feat of will, not that you are now simply better at resisting the urge. I guess in that respect, it should also play more into how, on OLYMPUS, Kishu have to deal with crowded civilian life more.

That said, addressing CRVs, I didn't want to go with percentages because of the crippled returns it would yield for them. Granted, they should be disadvantaged, since they're CRVs and the limitation really does need to hold them back, but that's why I wanted the pass system to be finite until each renewal. It presents a situation where they can force themselves to resist their compulsion and remain active for a day or two at best for when stuff really needs to get done. I also don't expect a CRV to get the maximum rank unless they are deliberately building in a fashion that doesn't optimize combat, since that's five points out of however many you get. The idea was to create a value that works well at 2/5 for people who just want that extra lifeline when they need it, but at 5/5 really makes a huge difference. That said, I'm now thinking that maybe it works better if you knock each "pass" down to four or six hours, and instead change the refresh timer on it to weekly.

Okay, gonna list my thoughts on Ego's tree:

    Animal Instincts
This probably needs to go up a tier.

    Controlled Burn
Same as above on it needing to go up a tier. I'd also make the cost in prana from using this a bit higher, though, and maybe specify the other penalties a bit more, in terms of mechanics.

    Earthdrinker
Hrm.. honestly, I think it is good in the tier it is. This is mostly going to end as a support perk, after all, unless you somehow are a spellcasting Hybrid. That said, I think that the amount of prana gained should be reduced by a bit. Probably only 20 prana per point in here?

    Iron and Silk
Really don't like this one, for various motives. First, I think this would belong two tiers above, at a bare minimum. Second, with only taking 3 points of this, it takes out one of the big ways to deal with an hybrid's uber-stats, and with 5 points, you become debuff immune. There is also the problem of a CRV taking this. Maybe it could be balanced by having only one point applied here, and that point makes one stat that cannot be changed, with you deciding each day which one is the stat that is going to be affected by the talent. Still would need to go a Tier higher, methinks.

    Berserker’s Clarity
Is it wrong for me to imagine Kazu just going "UUUUUUUUUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH" in midst of an exam, and then punching the paper in front of him until it generates the answers he wants?

    Creature of Intuition
My only objection to this and Territorial Creature is that combining them, you can have most of OLYMPUS in your territory. Maybe you should reduce "ward" to "zone of the city", with each ward being divided in many zones.

    Faster and Stronger
Also don't like this. Personally, I think this would make hybrids just plain too hard to deal with, as their statboners would reach astronomical levels with this. Specially so in a CRV's case, where they would be able to reach A(S) stats during Demonic Surge with the correct build. Furthermore, there are bound to already be ways to increase your stats in OLYMPUS. Hell, can you imagine an Hybrid with 2 points in this, backed up by a Servant with Reinforcement? I think that would be too much, even for DHOs.

    Life of the Party
Does it also attract snakes with those pheromones? DOES OLYMPUS COUNT AS A PLANE? WHICH NPC HAS SAMUEL JACKSON'S FC???

    Nemean One
It is alright on the tier it is, but it needs to be toned down a lot. I'd say that decapitation or heart gouging should be the ways to go when wanting to kill an Hybrid with this, for starters.

    Caustic Miasma
Just going to mention it again that I love this goddamn talent.

    Force of Nature
My only objection on this is, that depending on what said poisoning does, this might make it completely impossible for magecraft users to defeat an Hybrid with this.

Now, to put my own ideas here:

    For Sea of Estray

    TIER 6

    Sorcery of the Ancients/Sorcery Incarnation
    0/1
Requeriment(s): Sorcery Trait perk evolved to its ultimate form, A Boatload Of Other Talents
Perk. Having reached a supreme point in the Trait that has been passed down through generations of your family, you are now able to, at a big cost of your prana reserves, reach to the origin of your Sorcery Trait. You are able to activate a power that transforms your very body into an incarnation of your Sorcery Trait for 5 turns, granting you unlimited prana and new spells and abilities in its duration. Those spells and abilities are decided upon taking this talent, and cannot be changed afterwards, unless modified by other perks. Be wary, though, as using this strains your magical circuits greatly, and delving too much into the secrets of the ancients might lead to surprising consequences...

This is just me taking that idea said yesterday in the IRC and trying to come up with a talent based on it. I guess it is odd for a talent to depend on a perk, but I think it is a great way to put some customization in the ultimate talents of the SoE tree.

Now, moving on, those are my ideas, in a very general way, for three branches of the DHO:

    Factional Ability:
This branch would be focused on the unique abilities each faction has. I was thinking here is where the sealing/cursing/spiritual stuff from the Fujou clan would go, for the Ryougi the stuff about their many personalities would go here, too (I got no idea for the Asakami, though).

Physical Techniques: A big point of the DHO in the Nasuverse was that they were trained to fight enemies who were much more physically superior than them, and they used different physical techniques like Flash Step and Flash Sheath, to do so. Here those techniques would be acquired through the talents, and would represent partial or conditional stat boost that happen when making use of those techniques. A physical acceleration type of perk would be here as well, and I was thinking the higher tier talents of this branch are to obtain rank ups in stats when fighting against inhuman enemies that greatly surpass them in physical prowess (HBs, DAs, Aliens, to give examples). While all DHO branchs would have the branch, I was thinking that every clan should have different techniques, since if I recall correctly, it was that way in the Nasuverse.

ESP Art: Their main power, and what actually makes a DHO worth something in combat, is the ESP, and I think it is fair they get a branch dedicated to improve them. Like the Physcal Techniques one, it would be fairly homogeneous at parts (talents to reduce ESP strain and increase their quantity of uses, general improving the ESP, etc), but other parts would be faction dependant. For example, Fujous getting a talent that gives their ESP a rank up when hitting spiritual beings, stuff like that. This is a bit harder to think since we have no idea of how ESP is improved, in general.

For China Order, I thought of a talent to add to what Sei is doing:

    Vitality of the Mind

    Requeriment(s): Vitality of the Body
Having experimented with mixing the natural chi of your body, and the prana in your reserves, you are now able to spend 20 qp to enhance the damage of direct-attack spells by one rank.

My general thoughts in the China tree is that it is very focused on the magi that mix martial arts with spellcasting, much to the detriment of those who don't use martial arts. As an effect of this, and to my knowledge, Mei is getting an enormous mileage out of her tree, probably more than any other PC out of their respective trees, while Asuka is getting very little out of it. Rather than nerfing the tree, I think its focus needs to be realigned, a bit apart from Mei, and more in Asuka's direction, if we use them as opposite poles in an ill-thought metaphor (then again opposites attract so I guess Mei's breasts truly belong to Asuka now).

DB please do not kill me, kthx.

And a talent for all the factions I thought up:

    Factional Focus
    0/5

Having gained increased importance in your respective faction by force of your achievements, your faction now has a great interest on seeing you improve further, and will help you with your endeavors to better yourself. When studying and/or training with members of your own faction, every point in the talent increases your AP gain by 5. However, taking this talent means that since your faction is going out of its way to help you, your actions now are to be more bound to their interests, and you might have to take on different kinds of missions for them.

I have an idea for a higher tier talent. I just don't know where to put it, if it's in Tier 5 or 6. Or maybe if it's a bad idea.

    Supply Line
    0/1

Requires full levels of Hammer Time, Fixin' It and Master Smith.
You have requested supplies and materials you can use for smithing back home and it has been granted, therefore eliminating the need for finding materials and tools in order to initiate the creation and repair of normal equipment, Mystic Codes, Conceptual Weapons and Armaments.

    Here goes nothing.

Okay. Another attempt. This tries to focus more on the magical research aspect, rather then obtaining new abilities. Probably could use something more, but this is all I had at the moment. Probably super OP and whatnot, but this is a concept, not a full blown balanced thing.

    Tier I

    Single Minded
    0/5

Unlike most Magi, instead of expanding your magical knowledge, you have chosen to focus on your current disciplines with a dogged determination rarely seen amongst Magi. Each point in this Talent grants you the ability to power up a Mystic Code, Spell or a Sorcery Trait by a single rank. However, only one rank increase can be applied to a single ability.

    Tier II

    Results of Determination
    Requires Single Minded
    0/5

Your research into your specialities has made you into something of a trailblazer and an authority on your chosen magical field. As such, future research into areas associated with your talents are considerably easier then it would typically be. When purchasing a new perk that is somehow connected to the abilities you already have, the cost of that perk is reduced by 3 AP per rank.

    Tier III

    Behind the Veil of Mystery
Requires Single Minded, Results of Determination
    0/5

As someone who is constantly on the path of untread research, you have an instinctive knowledge magecraft and the supernatural unmatched by normal individuals. As such, it is actually easier for you to counter that which you have no knowledge of. When met with a magical or supernatural ability of E rank for the first time, you will be able to formulate a magical counter that will completely negate the ability used on you. Only works when you first experience a new ability. Each rank increases the countered ability's rank by 1. In addition the full details of the ability that was countered are revealed to you.

    Tier 6

    Knowledge Manifest
Requires Single Minded, Results of Determination, Behind the Veil of Mystery
    0/1

You have finally found it. The pinnacle of supernatural research that many have aspired to, but only few have reached. While your research has not resulted in something as specific as True Magic or a Reality Marble, it could be definitely said that the very supernatural art that you practice every day, brushes that ever hazy boundary and can truly be called an „Effect on the level of True Magic“. Choose one magical perk or ability. That aspect of your character is immediately elevated to Servant-level or equivalent and buffed accordingly.
