started Bakuman, a story about middle schoolers wanting to become mangakas, one does story, the other illustrations...

so it's basically an autobiography, ha


so far ep6 and I like it, I do wonder if the process of drawing (pro) manga has changed

Well, there can be some digital drawing involved probably, I know Katsura Hoshino switched to that since it's easier for her considering her problems and Tite Kubo is doing digital coloring, but I don't think it's changed that much.

I read Bakuman when it was still coming in volumes and I loved it, it's a fun story.

Finished Red Baron. Been following this watching each episode as it was released by the fansubber for 2 years. The project started in september 2019, so you get an idea. Pretty fun show and pretty interesting how similar it is to G Gundam when it started 4 days after G Gundam. Man, I'm thankful to the fansubber for completing the project and giving access to one more obscure mecha show. Always good to have more shows subbed.

Just watched Vision of Escaflowne. Pretty interesting show. 90's as fuck, in both artstyle and writing. It picked up immensely after the second episode, but I feel it started losing steam at about 3/5ths of the way through. Some of the plot points were also stupid as hell imo. Still, I enjoyed it. Animation is stellar. This is one of those shows where you can really feel the weight of the mechs.

All in all, would recommend, and keep in mind this is coming from someone who doesn't really gravitate towards fantasy.

Oh yeah, I never got around to watching the original Escaflowne. I got the movie adaptation in a buy one get one free anime sale a couple years back and never tracked down a copy of the TV version.

I should rectify that one day, but not today.

I just read the summary for the movie. Goddamn it's completely different. So Sunrise didn't go the recap movie route on this one, huh...

I love Escalflowne. I love the mechs, I love how it's actually a shoujo series hiding behind the cool shit, I love how horribly stupid it gets. Issac Newton for fucks sake.

I miss 90's animation.

I can see why. I really did enjoy it, but as I said, some of the stupid shit really got to me, such as the villains extracting luck DNA and giving it to the catgirls, or the villains using the power of fate alteration to cuck the main couple, or whatever the fuck that revelation about Dilandau was. The latter two are interesting, but to me they just didn't go anywhere and I don't think the show gave enough time to plot points like those to properly give them a cathartic conclusion.

To go a little bit off topic, and I might be in the minority on this one, but I generally don't like a lot of 90's art styles. Mostly due to the eyes ginormous in some instances, but also how characters have this sparkly, 'cum in the hair' kinda look.

At least they had noses, unlike a lot of modern anime.


I really miss when they didn't have the ability to do mass post production, so there's no glowing weak points on every female characters exposed skin.

I finished reading Bestia. I really liked the story, I have no idea why they would end it on 3 volumes, it could have went on for a lot longer.

Me too. I'm like 2 years behind on all my manga. But between All the good games coming out, a ton of anime each week, and occasional trips down the Fanfic hole I'm so far behind I'm wary about trying to catch up. Hell the last time I read One Piece Luffy got eaten by a Dragon, and was 'dead for real, honest'.
