If the show only was a visual spectacle that'd be one thing (it is, though), but it has a strong foundation of interesting characters too.

It's not exactly anime but it's anime adjacent, I've been reading the Re:Zero LNs the last week or two. I really enjoyed both seasons of the anime when they were airing and decided to dive deeper into the series. It's good stuff, which I think the popularity of the anime can attest to lol.

And it's like the only big isekai series that isn't "gamey" with characters having in-universe stat sheets and levels and stuff, which imo makes it worth checking out on its own even outside the quality.

I haven't touched anything involving Re:Zero besides its stint in Isekai Quartef, but didn't it have a guy with Anshin'in levels of skills and counterskills but played seriously?

SAO is as good (or bad) as the rest of the gamey isekai shit that came out the last half-decade, the problem as always is its fans.

Also, that is the bleakest possible view you could have on it. There are multiple adaptations that exist because someone involved is passionate about the original work, and many more who are seen as great works by their own merit.

Just finished Mononoke. One of the more 'WTF am I watching?' kind of shows, but in a good way. Very refreshing experience. Was expecting it to lean on a more horror side from what I'd heard of it, but what I actually found it's still very good. The Medicine Seller is now my favourite role Sakurai has done.
Only downside is that it's only 12 episodes. I need more. On the other hand, it being only 12 episodes with no continuation makes sense for the show, since it don't give a fuck.
