Basically you'd be hard-pressed to hear a quality difference between the iOS data rips and the OST versions - it's not obvious.

For the most part, using the iOS data rips and their according loop data would be much more elegant and easier, the only exception being songs like "Into the Night" which already have an optimized loop (by yours truly) and is indeed better quality with the OST version. It should be noted however that, even though nobody will ever hear it due to the presence of an ogg.sli file, the iOS data rip version of "Into the Night" actually has an actual outro of sorts.


I also have done an optimized loop for "Light and Darkness" so it's possible that, in the future, it will be a similar case to "Into the Night" where the OST version will actually be better, but being a song with not-so-great dynamic range, it's also possible that the future iOS/Android data rip version will actually be better.

On another note - does anyone know where the @bg marcro is defined? I searched everywhere and can't find it. Starting to think it's native but it makes little sense...

Yeah, I had trouble finding it too. In conditionplugin.ks, there's a line:

kag.tagHandlers.bg    = kag.tagHandlers.fadein;

I've looked at this file before trying to figure out how the background layers worked.

Ohhh then I'm gonna need your help! I think it's related to the conditionplugin which I don't really know its purpose.
I have a bug where the text line position after a @bg tag (and some other tags which alter the background) is incorrect, and after you click to view the next line it all fits back into place.
I'm literally trying to fix this for days... If you have some time to look at it I'll send you all resources to play the game in high res.

Thanks CO2 for solving an annoying bug. High quality images and text now seem to work perfectly. Of course more testing is needed, but things are looking good.
Next up - getting the in-game menus to scale correctly with the new resolution.

About a mobile patch - that's certainly something we'd like to do. Unfortunately I don't own an ios device so I can't test it, but I will try to patch the android version as soon as I get my hands on that apk (help would be appreciated).
That doesn't mean there won't be an ios patch, but since it will require someone else to test, it will probably take more time.

Just FYI, you can do iPhone emulation using the app developer tools on Mac, so anyone with a Mac but no iPhone (like myself) might be able to help test, too, depending on how (I avoid iOS development like the plague due to how much of a nightmare it is, so I don't know the specifics of this "how") everything works (if someone were to provide them with the app, which I'm pretty sure would require someone doing some jailbreaking).
Plus Microsoft intends to add iPhone emulation into Visual Studio 2015 for Windows, last I heard (they'd already added Android emulation, but with no Google Play Services so it was kinda useless for any serious app development, in the preview builds when last I checked). So there's that.

I've tried extracting the apk, and it comes up at like 25mb, though the download was 1.04gb. Might be that it downloads the rest when you open it. Would you like me to send it to you?

Most of the game data is stored outside of the primary app portion. A lot of very large games are done this way (I gave this speech a few months ago when describing the better way to do large apps and the worse way [it was related to the possibility of patching it], note this is the better).

Depends how it was implemented. Easiest way to test yourself (if you don't want to use someone else as a test subject)? Uninstall the app then reinstall it using only the apk you extracted.

I've been looking through the phone and I can't seem to find where the game files are stored. :/

Did you check your storage device (an SD card or your devices internal storage) for a folder named ".android" or one named ".data" or it can even be one named ".typemoon"?

Most files for apps like this one need a separate folder for their data, and sometimes they are hidden (the "." at the start of the folder name) and require certain privileges/knowledge to access. <<<--- tough after reading other posts it seems they were lazy and made it easier for us to rip it...

You so silly - a flip phone from 1999 would be lucky to have even a quarter of that resolution.


Reference point for everyone else - All Iphones until the Iphone 4 had a screen resolution of 480x320. Also notable is that the Game Boy Advance has a screen resolution of 240x160 (which is exactly 1/4 of 480x320) while the DS had 256x192 x2 and the PSP had 480x272.

(I always kind of gave Nintendo a break because I know that the higher-ups can be quite conservative, but last time I checked a VN that originally had straight-up pornographic content is far from something to be considered "conservative.")

Maybe that folder simply stores your config data for the game, like saved games and thumbnails, and not the actual files for the game.



Nevermind. I'll just test it tomorrow when I have the time. Maybe the files are in another location, like the "data" folder for android apps inside the system or somewhere like that.

I did all this yesterday. Got a jp google account VPN blah blah blah.
Couldn't download it anyway, so I downloaded japanese PAD to make sure that everything was okay and that that worked. I then proceeded to download some other japanese apps and they all worked.
So yeah it's more to with the apps compatibility with the device.
Luck of the draw I guess.

Weird because Nexus 7 2013 is one of the most commonly supported devices for apps in the past few years.

so yeah I'll just wait for an extracted APK+OBB which are bound to pop up soon.
