Dream Aoyama ~ Beach
"Every detail... If I gave you that, we'd be sitting here for weeks."
Figure framed in the morning sun, the azure haired woman's voice remains decisively neutral, even as she approaches a topic that you are absolutely sure would be sensitive for her.
"But it's really characteristics you want, right? How it works? What was done to stop it?"
A pause, eyes that you can't see focus on your face.
"The Kyuubi is ultimately a giant vengeful spirit, a manifestation of the world's darkness, the part of the Soul Sea that collects not just those souls twisted by negativity, but the negative feelings that even living humans naturally possess... After all, the feelings of people become power, and that power has to go somewhere... Now these feelings are supposed to dissipate with time, if the world takes something away from you, and you hate it for even a little bit, you contribute to that part of the sea. But it's supposed to be a passing thing, the living come to terms with their past and find a reason to go on, spirits come to terms with how they died, that sort of thing... In one way or another, they are supposed to move on from that negativity."
Another pause.
"But at some point that stopped happening. There could have been a number of things that triggered it, a war heavy enough to split the world into two factions, the realization that dreams don't come true even in the ideal world, leftover anger from the old world... Whatever it was, grudges started to build up and weren't being dealt with fast enough. The result is that curse. Even the little things that should fade away, a brief flash of hate or anger, a brief moment of dissatisfaction with the world, get swallowed and twisted by the feelings of others, and well... That was how it was born, in theory anyway."
Shifting her stance, the woman sighs.
"At that point, when it started feeding off even the little negative emotions of people... That was the point where it became a special kind of vengeful spirit. It doesn't need souls in their entirety anymore, it still has millions of them, but it can persist off simple grudges and keep dark thoughts going far beyond their point of origin; it's gotten so big that it's actively trying to strengthen itself... And everyone feeds it now, despair, anger, fear, all of that, every negative thing you have ever felt, it has taken that and made it a part of itself. Even if one soul comes to their senses, the others likely drag it back into madness."
In essence.
"From a certain point of view, it is 'everyone.' When you fight it, you are also fighting yourself, and no one knows how to break a person more than their own selves... That is why it is especially potent against humanity, it is their reflection in a mirror. It is what happens when people gather around despair instead of hope, it is humanity's anti-thesis, an unexpected self-destruct protocol."
Parts of yourself you have rejected.
Parts of yourself that you can't admit to possessing.
Desires to destroy that were suppressed, to want to hurt others because you were hurt, lashing out...
That thing...
Taking all of humanity's dark desires upon itself, twisting them further by mixing everything together...
That was certainly... A special sort of monster.
"It can't be killed. If you really wanted to 'kill' it, you'd have to kill what's feeding it... In essence, to permanently wipe it out, all you have to do is wipe out humanity as a whole. That plan isn't feasible for obvious reasons... So my friends... Split the mass into as many pieces as they could, and then used their own souls to seal them away from each other. Unity is what gives it it's strength, by breaking it up and keeping them apart, they slowed it down for a couple hundred years... But it seems that World War 2 gave it just the boost it needed to start moving around again in spite of their efforts."
The Kyuubi now is much stronger than the Kyuubi from all those years ago.
The Kyuubi that had defeated Yamuna...
That thing... What it was now...
"Even fighting it feeds it. The anger to strike at it, the fear that it will defeat you and make you a part of itself... It can feed off of those things as well... It's a monster of the worst sort."
