Unless he's been mentioned in TCW or the novels Rebels he's actually not. Maybe there's intent to reincorporate him later but until he's mentioned he's non canon, and once je is only whatever is specifically mentioned in the new materials counts.

You got me curious so I checked and he does actually appear in TCW. Color me surprised.

Unfortunately we can't assume much about him to be canon beyond "he lived a thousand years ago and established the Rule of Two".

All previous mechanical designs have at least appeared plausible. I don't see how the next world cup mascot works as anything other than a spherical locomotor with a silly little R2 style head magnetically stuck on or helf on with FORCE FIELDS or something.

Well yeah. Militaries don't change fighter planes every 2 years like in anime. Also TIEs are actually quite high performance but most have no shields.

30 years. And those were standard TIE Fighters.

Though I guess opinion of how awful they are are somewhat coloured by the various SW games...

As far as I know, the whole lightsabers stick or magnetize to each other is pure fanon, as in, it's not even something covered in the EU, it's completely specultive.

And ironically, the entire basis for said speculation is people trying to guess why lightsabers don't have cross guards.

Never heard that, but I took that as reasonable observation and assumption.

Please find me any instance in any screen Star Wars where anyone slid a lightsaber blade down another.

So just make cross guards out of cortosis alloy? (pure cortosis shorts out lightsabers for a time, alloy basically makes them clash as if solid) In the KOTOR era cortosis alloy plated swords and armor were still a thing.

Although I read in one of the official guide books that cortosis became a tightly controlled resource under the Empire, so maybe not. Same book also says that Vader had the option to use cortosis weave in his cloak, but out of ego he opted for regular armorwave instead so that he could personally duel Jedi rebels up front.

Last I heard (not going to wookiee) cortosis is rare by the 'modern' star wars era.

I think KOTOR is still canon, its only stuff after Return of the Jedi that got retconed I think.

Well honestly not much in this trailer grabbed out to me. I liked the droid and that's about it I guess, also the Lightsaber looks stupid as fuck. I hope its not the standard Lightsaber design for this new trilogy.

You should a lot of the EU is good stuff, The best way to get into the EU (In my opinion) is through the video games. So you can either jump in from Force Unleashed, The Jedi Knight games or KOTR any of the 3 work as good starting points.

I really hope whoever is in charge of the sequel trilogy made all the collaborators watch the 3 Plinkett reviews, but I know that won't be the case. They'll be trash movies, I'm sure of it.
