So, long story short, nearly all EU has been cast aside, save for those taking place before the original trilogy and its prequel (Old Republic is safe). However some EU concepts may make an appearance in the future films.

Yep, and they shelved Sword of the Jedi and other upcoming projects because of this.
I understand that they want to keep this whole cohesive thing going and all, especially for the new kids that are only really familiar with the current movies and Clone Wars stuff, but it still kind of feels like a slap to the face of people that supported the franchise through the EU up until now. Not much they can do about it, though.

On indeterminate hiatus until they sort out what the future is for the book continuity. Old Republic is safe, the projects between prequels and OT are safe, but everything post-RotJ is either scrapped or being shifted to that Legends title.

Nah, the EU thing is to be expected. It's actually their logic behind making these new movies that reeks of Disney Magic. "There's still a market for SW films, so lets run it into the ground!"

This is the worst thing to come out of this. Kyle Katarn is still around because there's EU stuff for him as early as around A New Hope but after the original trilogy is kaput.

It's funny though because due to his background (where you can spec into light or dark powers in his games so it's assumed he's skilled at both) he teaches his students the "it's not about which side of the force, it's about how you use it" line, while the Academy doesn't really teach that.

This is a prime example of why everything should remain canon.
They should do things the Transformers way and just label everything canon.
I could just say that a lot of the precious EU is also bad and really should just be buried and forgotten because it's embarrassing but it's funnier to post Han Solo punching a space otter.
