    Ryuugajou Nanana no Maizoukin - The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot: The Anime, kind of

    Give me a good reason why you're not watching this, Beast's Lair.

    You can't? That's what I thought.


    It's only a few episodes in so far into the airing, and though the setting is initially clearly derivative for anyone with a familiarity with anime (Artificial Pacific Island? Check. A city tailor made for students almost exclusively? CHECK.) that doesn't matter a mote because the treasure hunting shenanigans and the eccentricities of the cast carry the show just fine through what could have been a potentially mediocre slog of a start.

    It's based on a light novel, so there's an obvious risk of spoilers here. Just tag and bag 'em accordingly, and there'll be no fuss.

    Everyone's great, but if I had to pick sides so far then Tensai for the cup. Juugo's fun as hell, too. Second best protag this season only to Sora from No Game No Life.

    I already read and like the manga, even though its art is nowhere near as good as the levels in Nihei's previous work, and the music's good.

    It gets and deserves its pass, in my book.

    I'm kind of surprised how ancillary Nanana is. She's important setting wise but we don't actually see her do or say much. Guess being trapped in one room will do that to a character no matter how important. Not sure if that's different in the light novels at all. Tensai definitely feels more like the main heroine if we are using light novel tropes.

    Pai was the school Room different in the novels? I haven't read the novels (because the anime is very enjoyable and I don't want to start hating it yet) but I glanced at the manga and it was totally different.

    Been enjoying this show the most out of everything this season.

    Tensai amuses me, and everyone being so mercenary in one way or another kind of caught me off guard last episode.

    It's refreshing that everyone knows what they want, and what sort of steps to take to get there. The male protagonist went up a few levels in my eyes thanks to what he did at the end there.

    The anime changes it. But the original setup was really pleb, and you can't show how much smarter Tensai is than everyone when people watching could've figured it out if they wanted to, so who cares.

    Tensai doing clever things causes the plot to move too quick for she is too leet. Gotta hold her back with speeches. What was the original room set-up?

    It was a sign in middle of the room asking what in the room didn't belong, and if you got it wrong, you'd be dropped out of the room like in the anime. The treasure was in a secret room that revealed itself when the correct answer was given, and Tensai deducing there was a secret room before answering was supposed to be her clever moment originally. And the answer was "humans", which didn't really seem to make Tensai seem all that smart for getting it as much as it made Juugo just seem kinda dumb for not figuring it out after so many tries.
