Books are extremely many, loaded on an oxcart the ox will sweat.
At home piled to the ridgepole of the house, from this meaning.

Apparently Lancer's life outside the MC is still all about jamming his bulge into other people
Shirou is still constantly involved though. He didn't have any direct involvement in the Saber soccer scene though but that was Meteo.
I dunno, it's probably just the benefit of not having a fixed PoV but it stuck out to me that even the shutin witch is shown having hobbies and acquaintances and stuff. Whereas what does say, Rin do that isn't directly related to Being A Magus? I think she bought food with Makidera once?
Cooking with Shirou is not a non-waifu hobby (assuming you mean grocery shopping) and the big twist of the diary scene was that she also had a Shirou diary, gems is magus stuff, and fair point on the Illya thing but if I'm remembering the scene right I don't think Nasu wrote that one (that's kind of the problem with using Hollow when discussing Nasu's handling of slice-of-life stuff, he didn't write much SoL himself)
Like I said it's probably just an inevitable consequence of only having one PoV character.

^Isn't that too...typical for a magus character?

Realistically people will have other interests outside of their job, so even if your character's main role in the story is to be a magical wizard they would probably still do things other than magic sometimes (especially considering Rin was the one preaching "you have to have fun sometimes" in UBW)
that would be a better point if rin didn't repeatedly make the case that she practices magic specifically as a way to relax and have fun. I mean, at worst that makes her a workaholic, which I am prepared to argue is in and of itself a pretty interesting character.
besides, technically her job is not practicing magic, she works for luvia.
I guess it was only a matter of time before Rin started making cocktails out of the bitter herbs she was forced to drink as a magus. When life gives you lemons.

Battle doesn't need a purpose; the battle is its own purpose. You don't ask why a plague spreads or a field burns. Don't ask why I fight.
A broken woman using you as pretty much completely replaceable emotional crutch and you have a non-zero chance of never finding that out if you play without a guide because she just plays cute waifu all the time.
Of course if you do she becomes more infatuated with a real you and her playing a role becomes a more genuine display of affection (so it's not some MAD SUBVERSION or whatever) but still. With the way it's executed its pretty neat.
