BL1's death is one of the things that made me stop lurking. Having all your fic bookmarks disappear overnight is a huge hassle.

Started Legend of the Galactic Heroes (14/07/23), pray for me.
BL1's death made me confused for a week and was wondering if my internet browser or google was screwed up.
Though abandoned, forgotten, and scorned as out-of-date dolls, they continue to carry out their mission, unchanged from the time they were designed.
Machines do not lose their worth when a newer model appears.
Their worth (life) ends when humans can no longer bear that purity.
the last bit of 'drama' i clearly remember/kept up with as it happened rather than stumbling onto it like 3 days later popping up here was that one time Leo (i think he was Hong Kong something at the time?) made an obvious sockpuppet for funsies, got banned, then a bunch of others made obvious sockpuppets and then Leo got unbanned.
Remember Chris and Break biting it too, but only a few days after it happened.
What have I missed since then?
The banhammer culture here seems… I dunno, I’d describe it as simultaneously cautious, yet somehow not.

From what I’ve heard, wasn’t food banned at one point because he needed an inactivity sort of thing but it was before that had been implemented, so he bullied Elf mercilessly until he forced the mods’ hands?
Imma have a word with Break. Not gonna lie, I’m very disappointed with what I’ve heard here, but I’d still like to hear his side of the story. Glad to know that Christemo’s van was for a very good reason though. Talk about getting his just deserts though. Baiting someone into getting banned is just… I dunno maybe twisted would be a good word for it.

Why would anyone 'need' an inactivity option though? Couldn't food simply not use the forum without needing to announce to everyone that he's doing so? Also, given how many times I've gotten into silly arguments without knowing what I'm talking about and have rarely gotten so much as a warning (and the one time I did, I totally deserved it), I'd argue the forum's banning culture is pretty lenient.
Unless the mods think you're a sockpuppet, in which case they really do seem to opt for shooting first and asking questions later, unfortunately.
The problem is if someone gets addicted to posting as silly as that sounds.
He basically wanted to make it so it would be impossible for him to post for long enough to focus himself on doing other things.
I guess if you don't believe forum addiction is real than it seems silly but it makes sense to me.

Quietly unban all banned users without telling them and keep the red strike through font and banned user titles; anybody who actually notices their account is active gets to come back just for keeping up the vigil on their dead userpage for so long
