So I got big edge Dantes. Probably not going to ever use his 3rd ascension because what the heck is that thing. Will stick with either 1st or 2nd for now.
His 3rd Ascension’s extra attack is his Melty super tho which is cool
Best one is the second one. I also prefer the weapon he uses for the second one too.
I actually dig the hat in 1st ascension as well as the one eye covered cuz it's like his OG form. But 2nd form definitely has less edge which fits my liking more. If only I could select custom features lol. Oh well.
The only Ascension I really like is the 3rd one. The black version of Goetia's antlers and the center jewel mimicking Goetia's chest eye are very neat callbacks to how it all started. The 2nd is just the drama CD outfit as meh as it always was, and the 1st is just Joker from Persona 5, which is a huge downgrade from Nagito Komaeda.
As busy as his 3rd Ascension is, its animations are easily the best.

Personally, the only thing I'm not a fan of 1st is the giant guantlet-claw thing, looks too out of place with the rest of the design for me but I love the rest of what the design has going for. 2nd I also like but I think the pose he had on the Drama CD artwork worked better than the pose he has now, I still like it very much though. 3rd has the same problem for me than the Wild Hunt artwork in which I have to look at the in-game model over at Atlas to really understand the details of what I'm seeing. Overall, I think my favorite is a coin toss between 1st and 2nd.
Speaking of, it's surprising that Dantes had another artist draw him. I thought only Rui had that privilege.
Or is this Dantes drawn by the one who did Drama CD?

A different person drawing a variation for a servant usually only happens for Takeuchi, presumably because he doesn't have the time to draw every variation of his own characters. It also happened with Diarmuid, Atalante and Sakura if you wanna count Parvati and Kama, not sure if anyone else.

The artist changes make sense if you know the context of them, except Diarmuid, that one I have no idea why they didn't stick with his Lancer artist.

Nasu: Takeuchi told me that he wanted to draw all of them if he could, but that it’s not the direction that we should go for.
Kajita: I see.
Nasu: For example, Fate/stay night’s characters already have a long history around them, so they have an unfair advantage right at the very start. Having all the well-known Servants stand in the pole position is just cheating.
So Takeuchi drew all the characters that people would be upset about if he didn’t do them, and let other illustrators take care of the rest. As a result, we ended up having to pick illustrators that would satisfy the fans of the characters in question.
Takeuchi also wanted to draw Rin (Tohsaka), but he thought that Shizuki Morii would be able to draw a lovely Rin. I think it was a pretty good choice.
I thought "visually" meant "Gankutsuou had older Dantes so i'm going with a younger Dantes"
Btw drama CD/Montecristo artist drew Cagliostro,Wild Hunt,Haydee and Camazotz
I love how much more invested you are in this than in Heian-Kyo.
