That's not even how hair looks if you undo your braids. And it's clearly just added on there, she still has the old hair too, just with some extra added on top of it.
That's your point of view, and this is not a realistic thing anyway. I don't know for sure since I never had braids, so I can't say, but maybe thats how the character designers first thought it would be.
