He trended in Japan when his animations were revealed. There's a ton of art for him on twitter, just search his name and you'll find a bunch.

(And neither was Skadi or Castoria)

Skadi was the odd one out. Castoria, LB6 role aside, was notable as the final Infinity Stone of Artorias, not to mention another Saberface.

Frankly, that surprised me too. I thought Barghest was far and away the most popular. Probably due to Reddit spamming her relentlessly the first few weeks.

I think the main issue is how the death of Morgan and Tristan is written and what they have gone through to reach this state made people forget about the tyranny and atrocities they committed.

I'm pretty sure "extreme S&M" is more niche than "huge tracts of land" but then again I like Tristan's design way more than Gawain's so I'm not sure I want to follow that line of thought...

Nasu dropped the whole sobbing origin for Banshee basically at the very end (and even then didn't explained why Morgan care for her), so there's really not much time to feel bad for her. Especially 2\3rds into the story.

Nasu did in a few lines, like how Banshee was the only one who was appreciative for Tonelico's efforts every single time, and how Banshee's kindness led to exploitation by other fairies which led to her death all the time, losing all her limbs in the process. It is theorized that Morgan's dislike for caterpillars is because it reminds her of Banshee trying to move around with her limbs.

That doesn't justify the shit they pulled on the fairies though, so their deaths are retribution. As for the fairies, they mostly fucked themselves up every time Tonelico bailed their ass out and get outcasted.
