Once a genuine woman, she was famous for her beauty and was praised as a lovely maiden in Thessaly. She, who rejected countless marriage proposals, had the Sea God Poseidon (Neptune)'s affections forced on her one day. She was deprived of her chastity. Having satisfied himself, the Sea God offered to grant any of her desires to which Caenis replied that she no longer wished be a woman so she wouldn’t subjected to such things again. And so Caenis became an invincible man, or so the legends go.
In truth, it is not sure if she became a man. There is also an anecdote where, despite becoming a golden-winged bird after her death and vanishing in the skies, her corpse as a woman was left behind. Either way───── Afterwards, Caenis/Caeneus became a mighty warrior and ruled the lands as a tyrant.
