    From what we have understand. Lostbelts are alternate histories, parallel worlds, that have been cut off by the world and been pruned, the specifics of that are relating to mechanics revealed in Extella. They are the history of the losers, histories that never came to be.

    For the HS, they don't want to be trapped in a timeline that's guaranteed to end/die. For the former Chaldea A-Team Masters, some are upset that a no-name like Gudao ended up saving humanity, robbing them of their perceived birthright. Punishing this upstart by destroying Gudao's accomplishments is a start.
