That is to say, the only way the game is feasibly ending alongside Nasu stepping down as he said he would is if everyone collectively just decides "well if Nasu's not on anymore, I'm not gonna play" and immediately quits before there's even a chance at that becoming a slow trickle of people voicing their complaints for lack of Nasu and him coming back to the game to help because he's just too nice of a person.

Most likely he just hands it over to Sakurai to be the "lead writer" or whatever, and they can just do whatever they want, with maybe just checking in with him for really big lore stuff, as if they were writing whatever spinoff, but without him having to "tie it all together" and all that stuff. Of course that might mean we'll get an entire part 3 that's all EoR level quality, but some of that was good, at least.

I think the importance is there more to FGO as it is about to reveal more about Nero and Foxtail can reveal some more Tamamo lore so I think after those are done then they will add that lore into Extra Record?

Actually, that could work. They could use Saber Wars as the setting for Part 3. With non-canon disclaimer made in Nasu's blog, it could serve as a standalone sequel, and when/if Nasu decide to step down for real, other writers can take over without worry of affecting Nasuverse in general. A win-win situation imo.

I think he's gonna step down from FGO but obviously the servers are still gonna be there, he just won't supervise the story anymore, as he has shown he has no qualms about letting the other writers take charge and do his own thing. You can tell he really wants to give FGO's story a proper ending and move on to other things. If he comes back I think it'll just be guest writing.

Also Extra Record development is Studio BB stuff so any delays are on them.

Honestly the issue I would say is more the impact from said mentioned attitude nasu has on the game itself, as I would argue his 'doomerism' and him leaving then coming back would do perma-damage to said game, as there is a argument to be made the whole shitty scheduling of part 2 is semi to draw part 2 out cause of nasu's doomerism

Other people saying it does not automatically mean it's true. Giving FGO an ending is all that he has commented on that could be somehow construed as "doomerism" and giving an ending to things is like, a major theme in his other works too. He obviously enjoys working on FGO and gives it his best when he writes stories, but he has a desire to end it because that's what gives the journey meaning. It's not doomerism to want to give your story a proper conclusion so it actually means something.
