    Immortal Regis/Cavalier Of The Abyss

    Immortal Regis might be a bit boring to get started on, but if you think you can read that and make your way to its sequel, CotA, then I'd give it a shot. Translations are finally moving forward again for CotA too, so it's a pretty good time to pick it up.

    This is actually good for the most part but I didn't like Cavalier of the Abyss because of the unnecessary time-skip. I would have liked to see the main character's evolution into a monster rather than SURPRISE HE'S THE BAD GUY NOW.

    We did get a rather comprehensive flash back though, but I see your point. It would have been intetesting to see him evolve first without the foreknowledge that he'd turn evil-ish. On the other hand his brother seem to have done a 180 I really wondet what's up with that.

    EDIT: Whoa I just caught up from where I left off, and marathond like 10 chapters worth of content. Wow it gets REALLY good haha. I just couldn't stop reading. When I first started reading this I was mostly disappointed since none of the Immortal Regis characters were featured heavily, but I've grown really attached to these new characters now. Even that dumbass Xix hahaha. I still want to know what's up with Serine and Nex though. Their relationship was one of the big selling points to me so the lack of information about them hurts.

    There's a HUGE tone shift from Immortal Regis to Cavalier of the Abyss though. Immortal Regis starts off pretty silly and gets more serious bit by bit, however in Cavalier of the Aybss the world is 100% grimdark. Well there are comedic moments, but the atmosphere is serious overall.

    Oh shit I really gotta see this. I'm soo curious about the big "betrayal" that Serin pulled. To be honest I don't like this 180* edgelord Nex. He's way TOO dark and pragmatic overlord style. A truly savvy overlord rules with both effectiveness and magnanimity. Nex is all ruthless pragmatism to the point where he just doesn't communicate with his son! It's just too big of a disconnect from the fun guy who was all Serine <3. Of course when the betrayal is revealed perhaps things will become more understandable, but so far I'm not buying it.
