EDIT: after a brief search I found we do (actually there is one in the seventh and one in general, in addition to this one, but since the one in general is old enough reassure tin it might have looked like necromancy, so I can see why the OP might not have wanted to.)

This is for food stories, not just food. But it's basically a pointless thread, yeah.

Sorry, it looks like that post got lost in the merge ether; you might have to make the rest of it again.

But this one's got 'General Discussion' of food in the title, so stories about it are entirely appropriate too.

me and an old buddy of mine, at about 2AM in the morning went out looking for food. most resturaunts were closed so we went to the wallmart

there we devised.....

THE SAMMICH

Now, what the sammich is, is you go to the bakery and you grab one of those giant loaves of garlic bread. Then go to the deli and grab something like 3-4 packages of artisan type cheeses, you know, provolone, mozzarella, sharp cheddar, all that good stuff. Then grab at least two packages of ham and turkey. Take home, put all that together, cut in half, and bake for about a half hour.

I am guessing each half of that was something like 8-10 thousand calories. but it was ten thousand calories of pure divine goodness.

it took surprisingly long to warm up IIRC. probably because there was so much on the sammich and we were using a comparatively low heat

Had some crock pot barbecue chicken. Mother used store sauce instead of my recipe. Completely tasteless. Had a yam with it. Store said it was a sweet potato. I wish it was a sweet potato, so much better.

Actually the sushi place near my house does Ramen bowls for not to bad a price. You can usually get a bowl and a carafe of cheap sake for under twenty during happy hour. The tonkatsu is delicious, the chef boils the pork bones for twelve hours to make the broth. I know this because if I stick around drinking late enough and everyone else leaves, he will actually walk out of the kitchen and chat with me and the other diehards who haven't had enough liqueur to go home yet.
