I'm fairly certain, keeping Mike was not "popular sentiment", so I'm not sure if it applies.

Though I can agree with the sentiment.

But in the first place, I don't even feel Mods should have such authority.

They should be janitors, not bureaucrats.

I feel this over-simplifies things, as more often than not you have someone that is only sorta-wrong. Or someone that's sorta-right. Or... someone breaking a rule but for the right reason? Very rarely is a report spot on or an argument easy to defuse.

I was oversimplifying for the sake of argument yes, but the fact of the matter is that you can probably do most of your mod work while doing normal browsing.

Until a user thinks you're doing it wrong... which is fairly often. Then a brand new issue has come up. All I'm saying is mod work ain't no walk in the park.

    This.

I used to be a mod in a fanclub forum on a website I will not disclose. One error in judgement and I got kicked out.

The issue that the users think mods are wrong has become an issue because there is basically zero faith in the moderation.

And I'm not sure if that's on the users, or on the mods, though I have my inklings.

That seems like a good policy. Mods don't have to be eternal. They should be easy to replace.

Given on how the users have devolved into ironicposting and memeposting, I digress...

Any place where you can get away with such tendencies, it will be abused.

4chan's draw is in this factor, since it deliberately shuns content policing.

To put the responsibility of content policing on the people whose only ability to police is to act by example is a fairly naive notion.

I gotta head home, I'll try to get back on for a while before I hit the sack.

And I'll be honest. It's entirely possibly my values and beliefs are incongruent with the current base of the forum. If that's so, it may finally be time for the Long Walk.

So you're saying now that mods should have real power to police people?

I don't think Ivan read, I noticed him strawmanning at one point.
