Though I can agree with the sentiment.

But in the first place, I don't even feel Mods should have such authority.

They should be janitors, not bureaucrats.

He literally said he inserted random numbers. All you need to do as a mod is keep track of reports, look for spikes in activity and see if they're negative or not and occasionally look for smaller-scale issues.

I feel this over-simplifies things, as more often than not you have someone that is only sorta-wrong. Or someone that's sorta-right. Or... someone breaking a rule but for the right reason? Very rarely is a report spot on or an argument easy to defuse.

I was oversimplifying for the sake of argument yes, but the fact of the matter is that you can probably do most of your mod work while doing normal browsing.

Until a user thinks you're doing it wrong... which is fairly often. Then a brand new issue has come up. All I'm saying is mod work ain't no walk in the park.

That seems like a good policy. Mods don't have to be eternal. They should be easy to replace.

Any place where you can get away with such tendencies, it will be abused.
