They mainly changed a lot of things for modern audiences to accept it since a lot of it was for purposes of dramatic tension and to answer questions like "well why doesn't he just x." A lot of things happen over a long period of time, too, so they condensed stuff to go at a movie pace.

I loved the films, and understand a lot of what they did to change it for film and update it for people fifty years after it was written, but it is quite different in a lot of ways, not all of them good.

If Jackson's movies are DEEN, what about earlier adaptations?

Regardless of that I still want to see a film adaptation of the Silmarillion.

Morgoth having it out with Fingolfin go, go, go.

I feel like a film adaptation of the Silmarillion would be less like a blockbuster action/adventure romp and more like a NatGeo documentary.

"Witness the river Sirion as it bisects Beleriand and flows out toward the sea. Its majestic surface glistens under the light of Earendil. Oh look, it has found a mate in Narog."

LOTR anime (minus any resemblance to anime apart from awesome action scenes).

I just listen to Amorphis for the original (as Tolkien heavily ripped off from Kalevala)

Holy fuck, are you saying that the LotR animated films were NOT good? That's despicable.

Tolkien's son still has the rights for the Silmarillion, and given he hated Jackson's movies, I doubt very much he'll give them away anytime soon.

Although Simon Tolkien, the grandson, is supportive of the films and got in a tiff with his dad over that. And great-grandson Royd, who is in the film business, loves the films and was an extra in RotK.

if lotr was an anime it would need a dbz battle with sauron

Not that I think PJ will do a Sil adaptation even if given the chance, but the upcoming generation that'll be in charge of the estate is probably more willing to actually communicate with people regarding one than Christopher is.

Rankin Bass animated Hobbit is EXTRA. Still enjoyable despite being incredibly flawed.

Rankin Bass animated Return of the King is Prisma Illya. Really awkward but enjoyable in an ironic way.

Ralph Bakshi animated Lord of the Rings is the DEEN UBW movie. Decent enough animation but it didn't make much sense.

Honestly, I'm still waiting for Jackson to do an adaptation of the Temeraire books, since he expressed interest in doing so several years ago. Well, okay, it's mostly my sister hoping for it.

How old is Christopher? The older he is, the higher chance he will kick the bucket soon.

That's pretty morbid, but a quick Google reveals he's 90 (which I kind of expected, since J.R.R. was born in the 1800s).

Obstinate old men can cling to their lives almost forever if they have a reason to obstruct younger generations.
