I actually bought the memes and thought a new movie is greenlit. Like a producer seeing the memes and thinking "they love it!" And greenlighting a hasty sequel to milk the quadrillion dollar market.
Sony without the MCU is just doomed to fail.

I succumbed to the temptation of the Morb. (Actually every other good movie had an early screening only so it was either this or Top Gun, a sequel to a movie I've only experienced through Charlie Sheen parodies). Yes, it really is as bad as you think it is. I wouldn't say it's the worst movie I've ever seen in theatres. I've seen I, Frankenstein. And Jurassic World 2. And Fantastic Beasts 2. At least here, you get to see Matt Smith have fun being the villain who is only ever referred to by name in the very beginning and very end of the movie.

Morb/10. Would Morb again.

I actually know people who are legitimately hyped for it. Crazy.

Me too, and it surprises me how fondly they seem to regard the original, yet nobody talked about it for years except as an occasional gag. What's wild to me too is that none of the characters are particularly special or iconic. It's one of the few cases I can think of where the franchising is riding completely off 'world building' of the setting more so than established character adoration.

Per somebody mentioning The Once and Future King in the book thread, I wanna second pinetree in saying The Green Knight iz good. It curtails typical tropes but still delivers on sick fantasy imagery, and has a voice of its own.

I never understood the appeal of slasher movie franchises. Especially not when the slasher is nominally a mortal man, like in Halloween... How is he not executed yet? And shooting doesn't count. 3 "tests" of invincibility as per Journey to the West: beheading, disembowelment, and hot oil. If he's still moving after that, then we can talk about "invincibility".

Because they never nail him down for that long. They always end up yeeting him out a window only to not be there when they look for the body later. Also in like half the Halloween movies he's legit magic cult zombie man. Same with Friday the 13th. Most people aren't as gung ho as you about dismembering a corpse either. And since horror films have very few returning cast, the one's who know to do it aren't around when it needs to be done.

That falls on the side of experienced protagonists though. Ash doesn't start off going ham with his chainsaw, he grabs it when normal things are proven ineffective.
