BEHOLD! THE SIG OF GOLDEN TRUTH! Pillaged from McJon, Tsukikan et al.
It'll be entirely brainless and lacking in any subtlety, guaranteed.
So I looked up the director for the live-action Ghost in the Shell film.
On one hand he only made 1 film until now, which is Snow White and the Huntsman, which I haven't personally seen but wasn't exactly received as some kind of masterpiece.
on the other he made this:
actually kinda optimistic
[04:55] Lianru: i3uster is actuallly quite cute
Maybe it will be okay. Lets hope it still takes place in Japan.
no way thats gonna happen

This film is going to be a bastard then.
Snow white was pretty bad. Well shot, but the story and acting wasn't up to par.
That ODST promo was killer though.

She was bad, but Thor wasn't any prize himself there. Nor was Aeon Flux, although I do remember her being better than the other two.

How many examples of animes/mangas being brought to live-action by Hollywood do we have?
Dragon Ball, Akira(hoping it's good lol), and I can't think of more
All you need is kill/ edge of tomorrow. Technically a book, then a manga, then a movie.
Also according to wiki there was a '91 Guyver movie (Starring Mark Hamill?! And it got a sequel?!), a '95 Fist of the North star, Oldboy was appaerently a manga before it was a Korean movie, and the Wachowski's made that Speed Racer movie, even if I tried to forget it.

The Japanese themselves have had a few successes doing some live action stuff, so I'm not quite as pessimistic out the gate with things. If Shingeki gets full steam after the live action film then I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to replicate it stateside.
Localizationing stuff
I knew about the edge of tomorrow because it came from a book but if we count them there's also Battle Royale.
I didn't know about the others.

Oh yeah, there's that Shingeki movie planned. But I dunno if the Japanese are exempt from doing bad live-action movies; Haganai, anyone?
And they're not going to americanize the movies.
Even I understand why Hollywood would do it.
I'm not saying they're all good, I'm saying they've had successes. Please read harder.
Localizationing stuff
It's a comment not a criticism.
Most of the Japanese live action adaptions are pretty trashy looking garbage with over-the-top performances though.
I was really surprised when the Kenshin movies had moments where people didn't act like soap opera actors.

Over-the-top performances are pretty much how the Japanese rate acting. Kabuki is as Kabuki does.
