Unfortunately, they did. I've heard lots of good things about the recent sequel, though - the one from 2020, I think? Haven't seen it yet, but it's on the list!

I remember Jordan Peele's name on that one.

Then again, after Get Out they we're putting name on anything, so take that with a grain of salt.

It was co-written, but not directed by Peele. Which given I am not a fan of his work, and what I've heard about the 2021 film means I'll give that one a hard pass too.

I went out to see the new Puss in Boots movie because people said it went hard. IT WENT HARD. Way better than any sixth sequel has any right to be. I highly recommend it.

"Right lads, get a grip. We are now up against live hostile targets. So, if Little Red Riding Hood should show up with a bazooka and a bad attitude, I expect you to chin the bitch!"

I was in the mood for some horror so I stuck on "Dog Soldiers", a 2002 film directed by Neil Marshall (of the Hellboy reboot infamy) and starring Sean Pertwee so yeah, if you don't think about it too hard you can imagine this is Alfred Pennyworth's backstory where he fought werewolves during his time in the military. The basic gist is that some soldiers are having a routine training exercise in the Scottish Highlands only to find their mock opponents have been torn to shreds by some kind of otherworldly entity, and thus they must survive the night barricaded in a cottage against an onslaught of unstoppable enemies. I wouldn't say the film is an overt horror comedy, but man it was the most Bri'ish horror movie I've seen as despite their grim chances of survival, the boys in green have an impenetrable sense of gallows humour which helps alleviate the fact that you know this isn't the kind of story that has a happy ending. I also did like that despite them being horror movie victims, the soldiers don't go quietly into the night with special honour going to SPOILERSpooner who upon realising he's cornered and finally out of ammo, proceeds to start boxing his lycanthrope opponent and manages to punch out some teeth before werewolf backup arrives and they tear the soldier to shreds. The film is also fairly self-aware with the red-shirt of the group literally being named "Bruce Campbell", as well as characters directly referencing stuff from The Company of Wolves, Star Trek and The Matrix. Much like the first Evil Dead, this movie is very tight in regards to getting the most out of its limited sets and small cast of characters. There's also some surprising re-watch value as the underlying mystery running throughout the film means once you have full context, some events and lines of dialogue take on a whole new meaning.

Overall, this was a really good film - both in general and as a werewolf flick. I would certainly recommend to anyone who wants something a bit different from the typical Wolf Man plot.

Oh, yeah, that one is pretty cool!
I didn't know the guy had gone on to direct the Hellboy reboot, though. Still have to watch that one, but that gives me a sliver of hope it might be good.

I haven't seen it and can't say for myself, but general reception to it was pretty negative from what I gathered.

Just saw the Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves movie yesterday and I liked it. It was a fun adventure romp. It's not some amazing piece of cinematography (in the sense of story I mean) but it's fun and decent and that's more than enough for me.

Watched "The Bridge on the River Kwai" this afternoon.

A very thought-provoking movie. Nicholson and Saito were fascinating characters to watch throughout as they embody the theme of honour versus reason. My biggest gripe lay with Major Shears. His plot ballooned out of proportion from the original novel and it often felt like it was bloat at best and at worst grossly intruding on the plot of a different movie. A smaller issue is that for the sake of a dramatic climax, the film kinda ignores the bigger implications of what has actually happened and the inevitable fallout.

Regardless, a movie well worth watching and worth a recommend.

Of all the references I was expecting in the Mario movie, '98 Godzilla was not one of them.

Overall the movie was alright, but a lot of the main story feels really forced. The movie goes at a goddamn breakneck speed, but some of the best bits are the parts where they slow down.

    Also Mario does 9/11. #BulletBillsCantMeltSteelBeams

    It really is.

Worst part of the movie is having to wait 10 months for the next one.

Spider-Man: Get Blue-balled scrub was certainly a movie of all time.

Unironically I liked it a lot, especially what they did with Gwen but man... my balls have never been bluer.

He might have, we'll probably need to comb through the movie frame by frame to be sure tho.

I remember way back when, when the early teasers were out and they showed the spider emblems of the appearing Spider-People and supposedly one of the ones shown was his.

Considering the fact that this was just the first movie of the new arc, him showing up later on is certainly plausible.

Especially considering the deep cuts they pulled, like
    Spoiler:
LEGO Spider-Man and fucking Spectacular Spider-Man voiced by his original VA as well as literally just ripping the model from the PS4 game and getting Yuri Lowenthal for a line.

I swear to god, if the madlads actually green-screen the OG actor in and show a scene where he summons Leopardon in the Kaiju puppet style and have a whole fight scene with it, it is going to be the definition of kino.

I read a review on opening day laments giving Spiderverse 1 a 5/5, not because it wasn't amazing but because the highest he can give Spiderverse 2 is a 5/5 and he likes it even more than the first.

Especially coming from that newspaper, which is normally such a rag. (The National Post for all the Canadians and/or people who know who Conrad Black was)
