I dunno, I reread Dune once a year for the past couple years (it's one of the few worthwhile books left in my library back home since I took a second copy with me) and I haven't really noticed any big changes in my reading of it. Other than finding the Harkonnen more insufferable every time, I suppose.

I find them halfway disgusting, halfway comical, halfway pitiable (yes, they add up to 1.5)

the only really disturbing thing is the old baron's fixation on fucking paul in the ass, the rest is standard designated villain fare

I've found myself rereading it these days in anticipation for the movie, and man did I miss a bunch of stuff on the first go

such as, it's obvious in hindsight Yueh knows the only thing he can achieve for her wife is a swift death - and that's all he wants

also, i already had jessica as the mvp in my first read, but wow she really hard carries the plot

The fact that he's built on "paedophilic homos" tropes became more noticeable to me with time.

Gurney Halleck deserved to have more.

Because I was stuck babysitting I had to look for any U-rated movie to stick on and the only one I could find amongst my collection was "Treasure Island" (1950) that I had as a young'un that I barely remember.

Surprisingly still holds up, though that would be more of a compliment to R.L Stevenson's writing really since the film is very faithful. I was fascinated to see Robert Newton's portrayal of Long John Silver as his Dorset accent* supposedly set the standard for the stereotypical Pirate AccentTM on screen what with all his "Arr's" and other pieces of dialect. It was also interesting to see Bobby Driscoll as I only knew his voice from Peter Pan and I was sad to learn what became of him. I was surprised that this film was rated U as with all the blood, especially with a child being stabbed on screen but no matter.

All in all, despite being a "kid's film" I enjoyed myself and would recommend.

    * For reference I'll post a clip of Newton as Silver.

To this day my favourite version of Treasure Island is still Muppets Treasure Island. Tim Curry as Silver is amazing.

Really crappy leak (the CGI isn't even finished yet) of the first Spider-Man No Way Home trailer.

Lots of Dr. Strange, and at the very end Alfred Molina shows as Doctor Octopus.

I loved that movie as a kid. I could be mistaken, but I think it's the first adaptation to add the undertones of a father-son relationship between Jim and Silver.
I'll join Mattias in saying Muppets' Treasure Island is my favourite adaptation (and my favourite Muppets movie to boot), but since you [strikethrough]have no soul[/strikethrough] don't like the Muppets (:-P), I'd recommend 20.000 Leagues Under the Sea for next time! It also holds up quite well!

Didn't know about Driscoll's end. Poor guy!

Nah, that was also present in the book though later adaptations certainly did exaggerate the relationship between them.

Can't help it. I did not know the Muppets existed until I was an adult so I have no nostalgia for it.

Was it? I don't remember it being there in the novel, but I'll be honest, it's been... Cripes, almost twenty years since I read it, so I'll take your word for it!

Oh, jokes aside, it's not just nostalgia, at least not in my case. Outside of Sesame Street, the only Muppets show we had here in Brazil when I was a kid was the original Muppets Babies cartoon. My first real exposure to them were The Muppets Take Manhattan movie and the Muppets Tonight show (which I will defend to my grave as a good show and worthy successor to the original!).

Nah, Long John Silver has always been a quasi-fatherly figure for the narrator. I haven't even watched any of the movie adaptations (unless you count Treasure Planet way too long ago).

It was on TV the other day, as soon as they started showing "reversed bullets" I tuned right out.

then they actually had car driving in reverse car chase and "take this mask you can't breathe reverse air cause your lungs will be reversed" and I started throwing epileptic fits

I really enjoyed parts of Tenet, the Airports as the stand out, but it's also a huge mess in places. Like the initial Robert Pattinson exposition scene. They talk very fast, give the lines no time to sink in, and feel like they're at a quieter volume than the ambient noise. And that finale is just a mess, especially when they go to the trouble of telling you how to differentiate the multiple groups in that sequence, and then make the identifier something small enough that it's hard to find in any specific scene. You're left only knowing which group you're following by which MC is around, and that only works until the halfway point.

    TL;DR Timey Wimey.

Edit: But the air's backwards, Death. BACKWARDS!

I really enjoyed it when it came out. Of course I didn't get half the shit that was going on, but I concluded that that's the norm with Christopher Nolan movies.
For me the visuals were enough to carry the movie, honestly.

    Matrix 4.

Gives me major "The Force Awakens" vibes. It'll be a hard pass from me chief.

I'm getting those vibes too, but I actually really liked TFA. The ones after that less so, but it started strong. So I predict one good-to-great movie and a bunch of Rise of Skywalkers/Matrix Revolutions after.

I liked TFA until Han showed up. So, around the first third of the movie.

By the time they showed the fully armed and operational Death Star planet, I was groaning.

I have a high tolerance for fanservice but it was just too much.
