I don't think karate chops and kung fu can defend against 360 degree sniper rifle barrage.

As Hermitfold pointed out, martial arts, hand-to-hand combat skills and all other forms of CQC would only be part of the curriculum. The rest of the class probably focuses on tactics, such as how to use your magecraft to detect and deal with snipers, hidden explosives and other fun things found in Kiritsugu's bag of tricks. Because otherwise how else would Rin and Luvia have been able to recognize what that mafia group was trying to pull.

If the scenario of Flat drop kicking in the mats was against Kiritsugu it makes it 5000x funnier.

But some other things I want to bring up: The one thing Flat dislikes is physical exercise; and he was caught off-guard by the snipers. It doesn’t mean he could reinforce himself to protect against bullets, he’s very much meant to be weak against physical damage (though I do wonder why he can’t make his vest bullet proof if he can make mystic codes out of duct tape, but I digress)

Also in regards to Flat being scared of graduating, it’s highly possible, though we haven’t seen Flat ever express vulnerability regarding that. This is something I feel may come up in Adventures or Fake.

Is Od capacity separate from circuit quantity? Or it would be more apt to say circuit quantity is what enables you to make use of that capacity, since that's where the Od needs to circulate?

This might be nitpicky, but I think Od capacity and Magical Energy capacity is different for humans.
Od refers to one's lifeforce, its possible to be very virile but have no Magic Circuits.
Magical Energy capacity is how much Mana + Od one can store and that's dependent on circuits

Magic by the Greater Source

The Greater Source is the life force filling the outer world, expressed as the life force of the planet, the life force of the air.

The nature of it is the same as the Lesser Source but the amount is many digits off of that than the Lesser Source. However, the amount of the Greater Source that a magus can convert at one time is limited by the magic circuits, so no matter how much is around you, you can't use it without limit.

Also, there is a limit to the amount of magic power one can hold so one can't change the Greater Source to magic power ahead of time and build up the stock inside oneself in great amounts.

Magic by the power of the Lesser Source
The Lesser Source is the life force of the magus himself. It is something that exists in the inner world so there isn't the trouble involved in absorbing it like with the Outer Source and is accordingly easy to handle. Many magi use this Lesser Source to generate magic power.


As with the name of life force, use too much of it and there will be negative effects on the body. Thus, magi typically generate magic power a little at a time and built it up inside the body. The accumulated mount differs from person and the greater the magus the more there is.

The idea that you take away from your lifeforce to build magic energy seems to imply there are two separate bars, a HP bar and a MP bar.
Magi using Od, subtract from the HP bar and add to the MP bar.

Well we know semen can carry magical energy, but even in real life, sex and orgasms are often considered by many to have a certain level of spiritual power. The idea of someone being more fertile the more Od they have might not even be that much of a logical leap. What I'm saying is, being the master magus makes you a master sexer.
