Unclear as far as I read. We’re stuck on Gray’s POV and she was more concerned with taking her chance to turn the tides on the fight than figuring out what made Rin stop. And after the fight, it's reasonable for Gray to assume Rin stopped because she saw her teacher, as Gray has no reason to assume Rin would react to her face, so this wasn’t questioned again, at least in chapter 1.

Given that Luvia talks about using Rin's absence as a chance for her to hit on Shero, it's reasonable to conclude that he stayed in London. However, it's also reasonable to conclude he assumed that Rin would end up in some kind of mischief and secretly tagged along to keep an eye on her.

Also, that second point is why I ship Rin x Shirou. They are legitimately partners who have each others' backs and anticipate what trouble the other will get in thanks to their flaws. Even if they're not a couple, that's still an amazing friendship.

Definitely a fake rumor. It was made up by /fgog/ or 4chan, IIRC. I talked to You and he mentioned the only times Shirou was referenced were Luvia's little rant about how she could get Shirou while Rin is away and when Waver mentioned him to Rin when she did something Hero of Justice like.

It's possible he could've been tagging along secretly but it certainly wasn't revealed in this volume.

I have not read the volume yet but as far I have seen this is doesn't follow any FSN route and there is no romance involved. Maybe the whole Van Fem event is from here? That would be a neat reference to ataraxia.

Also Sanda very intentionally going the "this is no UBW" and then doing romance anyway feels backwards. And we know that Shirou going to London with Rin is not a UBW only thing, so it's not a must. It even happened to Archer.
