Personally, I had forgotten about the UA Traitor thing, or at least I was thinking it might be Uraraka or Kaminari for a while, so the reveal came as sort of a shock.
Also, let's not forget that Aoyama fakeout.
That he decided to address the traitor after such a long time is shocking, but I can I care about getting betrayed by a random extra.
Any drama between her and the class will be totally artificial. Maybe if tail boy cries I'll believe it.
Akechi in p5. The worst reveals are the ones you see coming from the characters first appearance.

Disagree, mostly because that's missing the point of the traitor reveal. I don't think Akechi's thing was meant to be mysterious at all, and heck, even Joker and gang figured it out enough to outfox him.
Even if it was intended to be easy to figure out, they still did a big reveal scene. Which falls flat because it was expected. They then do good things with it afterwards, but the reveal itself is almost worthless by that point. And he's not the only instance, just the first one that comes to mind.
Even MHA itself has had worse reveals. Remember when everyone figured out Dabi years beforehand?

At least Dabi had a dance number. And murders. And an actual in-story presence.
Honestly, for me the impact of the Dabi reveal had nothing to do with any suspense at all. It was more about exactly how it would go down, how would the Todoroki family and the world react, and so on. It had much less to do with the surprise.
As for the U.A. traitor, I don't believe half of you when you say you saw it coming from a mile away. There were stronger candidates IMO, and after a couple of years of no mention, I was almost convinced it was a red herring.
Wait, who? I remember Hagakure being the number 1 candidate for the past 3 or 4 years now. It was the pet theory of the series official translator even, so everyone who read Caleb's TL notes knew what was going on.
Anyways, I don't feel anything one way or the other since I was always expecting to be the starting point for Hagakure's character. What comes next can be pretty anything and that's what I'm really invested in way more than the moment of the reveal.
For me, Uraraka was a strong candidate 'till 2019, and Kaminari was another because of how suspiciously powerful he was and how he could be playing dumb. Still, I honestly stopped thinking about it around 2019, so...I also agree that I'm more interested in what happens next as opposed to the moment of reveal.
I suppose I really don't care if surprise twists are actually obvious because I find it more fun to spot patterns and foreshadowing in the narrative knowing the major spoiler.
Yeah, I think Akechi worked well enough.
The thing I've been comparing this to most (and seen it compared to most) is Naruto, with Obito=Tobi. But there Obito had the benefit of being absent from the main story for like 20 years, which left him enough time to recover from dying, get gaslit/traumatized/corrupted into becoming a supervillain, and then gain special powers to help with overthrowing the entire known world. Hakagure Tooru has been a part of the class' activities from day 1.
Aoyama: character focus, revealed as friend
Kaminari: character focus, revealed as friend
Hagakure: no character focus, no alibi during training camp, literally only remaining candidate

Kaminari didn't get that much focus, and his backstory is still unknown at that. There was room. Also, the UA Traitor theory was only ever introduced as a theory in-universe, not as a fact per say, so there was also a chance of no traitor.
We got to see Kaminari's inner thoughts in the Shishikura fight and that was enough to rule him out.
Tbh I didn't expect Hagakure just because it was the worst choice aside from Sugarman or smth.
But I guess I should've expected it after the quality we've been getting these last months.
Let alone him going the distance for Jirou when all the heroes raided the PLF.
True. Again, I honestly stopped speculating about 2 years ago.
