I think they still have that, only they're boxes that give you 50 pennies or flying papers you've gotta chase that give you a new sea shanty.

Eh, shanties weren't that bad, because each paper gave you a new song. Unity has cockades which are pretty much just easier to find flags. That is if you spam eagle vision while you're casually strolling the city.

One thing I'll give to Unity. Parries aren't just free victory anymore if you're 1 against 10. The riposte isn't automatic anymore and enemies can attack you in the middle of the animation.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure AC1 is the only AC that's actually hard and you should play with stealth, starting with AC2 you can just mow down everyone and everything and only stealth when it's a mission requirement or you're too bogged down by mobs.

Only thing I consider hard about AC1 is needing to kill the targets with the Hidden Blade and not being able to do it with anything else. Plus the lack of air assassinations made some of the targets an exercise in waiting for them to run into one of the packs of helpful NPCs that'll hold them still for a shanking. And in the case of Robert de Sable, counter then throw him into the ground and then shank, or counter with the hidden blade.

AC1 is still the game that gives an achievement for killing 20(or more, can't really remember) in one fight and making that very easy to do with counter spam and had several parts where Altair just kills his way through an army.
