So I managed to knock another game off my massive Steam backlog. This time it was "Detention" - a Taiwanese indie horror game. The basic premise is that two students got stuck in school due to a typhoon and as the sun sets some eldritch shenanigans start happening. Really good use of sound design, both the music and the general noises are well timed to unsettle and the game really doesn't lean on jump-scares. The other thing is that it isn't just a typical horror story since as you progress, you slowly discover the school's sordid history and a heartrending tragedy that unfolded during Taiwan's "White Terror" period. It almost made me cry at the end...almost.

    Definitely recommended.

I've been playing Metal Gear Solid V but I'm not really enjoying being stealthy. Is there any consequence if you just give up on stealth and straight up murder everything?

There is an interesting visual effect the more you kill people, but I don't recall there being any actual penalty.

It's just a lot harder to pull off a murder everything in a stealth oriented game.

I think there's a change to the end cutscene, and a few other minor changes that depend on how many people you've killed.

I know there's one cutscene if you go crazy and kill a ton of stuff.

Damn it. I finally gave up in a mission where I took down 24 people silently and then one guy notices me and I had to start over from the beginning. I finally realized that I hadn't enjoyed the 90 minutes I wasted doing that and stopped torturing myself. Stealth really isn't my thing. Which I should have realized when I didn't enjoy Dishonored either and gave up after the tutorial.

It's all right if you kill a few people, by the end of the game I'd gotten pretty tired of the tranq pistol too and had started to pop guys left and right. Just don't go too crazy with it and start setting up corpse mountains and/or red carpets with a suspicious naked lady on a box at the top.

You can go with other means of incapacitating them if you don't wanna kill too much- have fun with sliding box tackles, robot arm clotheslines and the doge is hilarious when you can get the stealth upgrade for him.

I decided to get back to it after I finish Dark Souls 3 and Nioh. I've really been enjoying Dark Souls 3. The Charged 2HR2 on the Astora Greatsword is just so good.

As for Nioh the world looks worse than Dark Souls 3 even though level design is pretty good. But combat I feel is superior to DS3 especially since pretty much every enemy is bound by the same rules you are. Character models of every NPC is very good. The voice acting is also pretty good. I really like the vibrant colours on the characters just a shame they're let down by some dodgy textures.

Playing "Digimon: Hacker's Memory" the sorta-sequel to Cyber Sleuth.

I was initially sceptical of a side-story running parallel to the main one in CS. But it turned out really good, a much smaller but personal adventure for a guy who plays a background part in someone else's heroic world-saving journey.

Also, finally having Arkadimon as a villain in a Digimon series again is amazing.

Playing "Hack G.U. Last Recode".As a person who has played both SAO and .hack and watched animes from both sides, I can definitely say that I like .hack far more than SAO.

Hack's world-building is IMO much better. .hack feels like they made the VRMMORPG setting first, then adjusted the story to that setting, making it more believable that you're in an VRMMORPG, while SAO just felt that the MMORPG part was just added to the story as if it was a side comment, and if one day they decided to treat the VRMMORPG part as a real fantasy world it wouldn't be hard at all.

Also I didn't get bored of .hack GU at the start, something that all games except from the first SAO game in that original story managed to. And .hack's GU gameplay is more fun frankly, it's simple but fun, and damn I love that bike (starting from Part 2), beats the flying mechanic in SAO's second game. Both have bad writing though and a lot of cringe moments that make me want to skip the cutscenes, but I still have to reach Part 4 in hack GU to see if the new chapter they added is better than the old ones in terms of story and new gameplay.

I'm stuck in Redemption trying to beat the Forest of Pain. No checkpoints mean I need to do this in one sitting, and it takes a lot of time even if you've equipped the Goblin Shoes.

Not sure if you did it, but I suggest you complete all the time trial missions for the bike. One of them gives a bike equipment that turns you invisible as long as you're riding the bike, which makes it much much easier to beat the Field areas faster. Unfortunately, to do the same for Dungeons and similar ones you're stuck with only the speed talismans in Part 2. In Part 3 you'll get the Shoes I'm mentioning, which gives invisibility + movement speed +25%.

So I picked up tales of berseria recently, and am enjoying the heck out of it. (It was on sale)

god i I love a good dark revenge story. What’s weird is when I first started playing, I would have described it as the game where max payne’s younger sister took up recreational cannibalism.

but having played for a few dozen hours I now know it’s the game where the guy from majikoi took up healing when he was 8 years younger. I’m just waiting for laphicet to actually learn little brother stare*

*double damage to big sister type enemies
