my goodness, the third part of shenmue ii drags forever
this story is not supposed to be in the form of a game, i would say
I heard through the grapevine that the lead Shenmue dev famously doesn't actually play videogames.

Started the new Vanillaware game 13 Sentinels. Holy shit this is the most anime game I've ever seen. Not just because of the style, but by the end of the tutorial (which takes about 2-3 hours to get through) you have an amnesiac whose getting an "Obi-wan you're my Only hope", SSSS Gridman, Total Recall, A Madoka, rival bancho's, an isekai, ET, and a shoujo romance. And that's only with less than half the cast unlocked. I can't wait to see how fucking crazy this gets, and how they manage to tie all these individual stories together. It's also Vanillaware so almost everything looks gorgeous being 90% Visual Novel and 10% RTS with the FF7R ATB system.

I bought the game but havent gotten to it yet, it looks epic and you make it sound even more epic.
It's constantly walking on the knife edge of being a terrible mess, but keeps managing to stay on course. Each new chapter is so full of WTF that when I'm giving the option of choosing which characters story to go onto next, I can't decide which is more intriguing, even for the romcom-y one which is pretty normal comparatively just makes me want to continue it because it has to go the same route as the others, and I want to know how crazy it will get. It's amazing and I love it.

13 Sentinals update: Now we've got proper Gundam, a person M Bison-ing themselves throughout time, Westworlding, Ghost in Shell mindhacking, Terminator, and other's pulling a Michiru from Haruhi Suzamiya on themselves. This game is fucking insane. 11/10.

It took me nearly a year and change, but I finally got around to finishing Ace Combat 7. As someone who looked upon PS2 owners with envy and who has listened to Zero about a half million times, I was indescribably hyped to finally be able tio play a "mainline" Ace Combat game (I want to defend Assault Horizons, I really do, but even ignoring the DFA system those FPS-style helicopter sections just can't be swept under the rug). Now I can finally say... the game met all my expectations, yet not my hopes.
+Amazing soundtrack remains amazing
+Lots of planes lovingly rendered and detailed down to the screw
+Gameplay maintains the signature balance of arcade fun with realistic trappings (you may carry 100+ all-purpose missiles, but flying through the clouds will confuse their targeting systems at risk of icing up your wings).
+ A LOT of great, original setpieces (perhaps not to the series as a whole, but in the context of the game no mission felt like an exact repeat of another).
-Nonsensical, meandering and ultimately lacking in impact story
-Dialogue treading a fine line between amusingly hammy and plain awkward
-"Invisible mute" protagonist too obvious to ignore
-Some missions do not respect your time at all, with very irregular checkpoints (looking at you, Stonehenge)
-Only a few specific flight sticks are supported for mysterious (moneygrubbing) reasons
All in all, a game I had a ton of fun (and about half a ton of frustration) with, but one I would be hard-pressed to recommend to anyone who doesn't rewatch Top Gun at least yearly.

Just finished Ico (PS3) for the first time. What a ride. It's amazing how Ueda and his team managed to pull off that level of animation quality on a 2001 PS2 title. I love how you could see so many elements from it that influenced the likes of Miyazaki and the Souls titles, especially the desolate atmosphere and minimalist approach to storytelling. The only problem I had with it was that the semi fixed camera angles made it hard to calculate some jumps, which led to a few deaths but that was mostly during a specific portion of the game. The ending is just the cherry on top.
Does Danmachi Infinite Combat have any original story content, or does it just only cover season 1 of the anime?
played rance 01 and 02.
Rance 01: decent story, alright gameplay. Epic ending. My Glorious Days isnt used at all in the game like it is in later installments and only plays at very the end when the villain gets her just deserts, i clapped with the force of 100 americans on an airplane.
Rance 02: decent story, gameplay is untouched from original 1990 version soooo... lol its bad. Cool ending.
Started playing 13 sentinels. God this game is gorgeous, vanillaware truly is one of a kind. sceptic of the tower defense gameplay at first but its decently fun. i do prefer their old stuff gameplay wise, but the story and awesome take on ADV more than makes up for it.
I'm nearing around 50% for most of the cast and the game still ends almost every chapter on a huge WTF moment. And it's always the unassuming ones that hit the hardest.

Been playing trails of cold steel 4. Not as good as 2 but pretty fun. Two notable things.
first there is this one event where you and a chosen friend try to make a drink and Laura is some kind of mixology genius. She came up with kind of a creamy nog style drink involving brandy, cream, and egg yolk that I am half tempted to see if I can recreate.
secondly maaaaaaaaaaan does Alyssa have a bad case of main girlitis. Even more then she usually does
Ugh 3 had her in that same position too, and it bugged the hell out me. 1&2 managed to keep pretty close to whatever choice you made (though the fact that you got to see everyones special reunion scene in 2 if you had them maxed in 1 was kind of hilarious), but the Crossbell chapter of 3 was so full of teenage romcom awkwardness it almost hurt.
