I'm well aware it was a cashgrab, but holy fucking shit it was a cashgrab.

They took that phenomenally well done first game, dissected its still living body, and replaced almost every still working organ but the skin with low quality sweatshop-made replacements.

I picked up a PS4 as a Christmas present to myself.

I had access to one before my roommate moved in with his girlfriend, so it gave me the chance to revisit some of the games I really loved, such as Bloodborne and The Evil Within 2. I'm doing my first Arcane run on BB, and the Tonitrus is a thing of beauty. This thing melts anything it touches. Kind of a pity the Logarius Wheel turned out to be such a bummer, though. Oh well. Once I break through the Ludwig wall again, I can finally use his Holy Moonlight Sword. I wasn't able to use the Moonlight on my two earlier characters, which were a Quality and a Skill build.

I also went on an RPG bender with Wargroove, XCOM 2, and Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden. All three of those games are absolutely destroying me. I'm starting to think I'm not meant for strategy RPGs. I can have one really good turn after a lot of set up, and then everything falls apart. Maybe I'm not cut out for thinky games.

I think I'm going to check out of those three games for the foreseeable future and give shooters like Doom and Prey a try.

I've been getting into Pathologic (and Pathologic 2) recently and I have to say I'm impressed by how finely tuned the mechanical difficulty is.

To control encounter rate when the game is filled with random encounter is really good shit. Other RPG games that try to give traditional RPG should try consider including this feature

First time I ran into that was Bravely Default. I loved it, being able to grind my characters until they were absolutely out of HP/MP/BP then put encounters off and walk leisurely back to town, and the inn.

I really need to finish the Bravely games before 2 comes out.

Still stuck somewhere after the first loop, iirc, where the heavy grinding begins. I loved the game, but I don't know if I loved it enough to do it a bunch of times all over.

Beat "Death Mark" on the Switch. I originally bought it thinking it was a pure Visual Novel but if I had to describe it, it's more like Ace Attorney where each chapter a client cursed by a spirit comes to you for help, you investigate an area through point and click stuff until you've eventually solved the mystery and so it climaxes in you facing off against the prosecutor evil spirit with you presenting evidence to purify them.

Gotta say though, this game is the definition of "low budget", especially as the cast list is tiny and the characters only have one body sprite with just a couple of different facial expressions each. The sound design is on point though, really sets the atmosphere with both the creepy music and the sound effects as you investigate.

All in all, it's a fun if very short game. Definitely was made with sequels in mind as while the antagonist is defeated there are still a number of lingering questions for the MC to solve even if he isn't the protagonist in the sequel apparently.

Took a break from Yu-Gi-Oh for five minutes to check out "Pokémon TCG: Online".

I've always been interested in getting back into the TCG since the Gameboy game of it was actually how I got into Pokémon as a whole since I wasn't a huge fan of RPGs as a child. Anyways, it's pretty decent - even if the TCG has always been babies first card game - it's still pretty enjoyable.

Kinda makes me wish for another (proper) video game based around it now. Like with an actual story and stuff~

Since I've got the week off work, I decided to put Trails of Cold Steel on hold and try one of the games I haven't booted yet and see how far I can get in it. Five hours later and I'm probably 1/2-2/3 done Gravity Rush. It's interesting but you can really feel the Vita-ness in how limited the combat is, and the small few minute challenges everywhere instead of side quests. I wonder if part 2 feels a little better?

Maggot Baits. I have to say, in terms of death that semi-immortals can come back from (AKA anything other than beheading), as mentioned before, repeatedly dying can mind-break a Disaster's Witch for 2 reasons: pain and the fear of death. While I agree with the first one, especially given how some of it happens, I'm not too sure about the second one. Most people are afraid to die because they fear losing themselves.

However, if you know that you can come back from it, wouldn't it be like being underwater for a few seconds knowing that you'd resurface sooner or later? Comparing that to Ajin, obviously dying painfully is painful, but several Ajin have long gone past the point of fearing death. In fact, wasn't Nagai's advice to his friend who couldn't summon his black ghost yet, just to try dying a few times?
