I went back to Monster Hunter Rise recently since people are talking about it with the PC release coming within the week, and the anime season not really doing anything for a little while. There were dozens of new event quests to try out since I last booted it up. Most of them were pretty fun, but those Apex quests are a real pain when the weakest one can one hit you and the quest wants you to hunt three. Especially Diablos. Regular is a big enough pain, let alone the souped up version.

Hades is quite fun. Had one of those early runs where things go almost too smoothly - almost cleared the Elysian Fields when I've barely made it to Asphodel before - and I wished I had died earlier to get more gradual dialogue back home! Fortunately, overreaching doesn't spoil the experience in this game.

The whole premise on the game and the relationships Zagreus has with various characters are really well done. Chatting with daddy after you die yet again is always fun.

Lol, I thought the same thing. Unfortunately some fights in Elysium can easily wreck you even through spam healing, given how hard they can hit.

Finished Horizon Zero dawn yesterday. It was alright. Some bad gameplay choices (excessive need for crafting, limited climbing) made the game feel like a chore to play at times.

The world was nice as I like settings like these but the writing was really bad.

The best part was when it was revealed the guy who accidentally created the killer robots which wiped out humanity later proceeded to intentionally wipe human history from the records, effectively destroying all human progress, because "uh, it's better if they're innocent". It was so damn stupid it made me laugh. The idea is workable if presented properly but the writing is just too bad as is.

Another great part of the game was the cultist leader dude who was supposed to be a main antagonist but had the depth of a puddle. By the end I didn't even care that he had killed your father figure, I just killed him because I wanted him to shut the fuck up. Aloy's "you're fucking worthless" speech to him was based.

Cultists are the go-to when you want a villain who's crazy, hateable and quotable, and you really liked the hype around Vaas from Far Cry 3, but you can't actually write, don't care any more, and ran out of believable motivations for villains ten years earlier in your career.

HZD's twist was fucking great, though.

And to be honest, after seeing the entire bloody world's politics over the last decade, I'm 100% on board with a Ted existing, there are definitely wankers like him, but if they got to the top like he did, they're definitely not the kind to feel remorse and regret their humanity-melting robo plague, they're more likely to Disney themselves and wake up as enlightened superbrains in the postapocalypse, with all the old world's tech at their fingertips and fulfilling their fantasies of being the world's most powerful men or women.

Definitely going to play the sequel myself, though God of War, HZD and Elden Ring all popping in the same Q ths year is going to be painful on the old wallet.

You're right. That is terrible. He should be brainwashing female political rivals to be part of his harem, instead.
Oh, and sacrifice a portion of them to knock on heaven's door, as it were, if you're going that route.

Also, understand that Anora's triggering death flags harder than a Jun Maeda heroine. Difference is that Leon is perfectly willing and able to overturn heaven and earth to save her.

If you're talking about the part with the energy waves coming at you while being pushed into the wall into that damaging goo then I hate it. I took like a break from it and only tried again yesterday to get to that part.

VBH is like in SMT in that the route split is nominally much later on, but preparations from the route split happen at around the second choice. Though, VBH has better use of the reincarnated goddess, more than True Goddess Reincarnation.

I beat that boss finally. Using the storm missiles every chance I could get was the key.
