No, it's still a Souls, every move you make you have to commit to, and the consequences are yours to deal with. It's just that said commitments are a lot shorter.

Quick example, DS1 had you stand there for a full two seconds or so while you chugged Estus. Completely still, easily punishable, incredibly backstabbable. DS3, you can still be moving a bit (hell, the most common PvP way to ward off backstabbers while chugging is to spin in a circle while you chug), the sip takes half the time, and you can just roll out of the tail end of the putting-the-flask-away animation if you're in danger.

Hm. It might still be more to my tastes, though.
Been thinking of trying out a Souls game. Should I start with 1 (or even Demon Souls!), or would it be alright to begin with 3?

It's my first time playing a Souls game as well and Dark Souls 1 has been pretty great so far.

Heavily recommend starting with Dark Souls.

Did you get the combo with Ground Zeros and Phantom Pain together? Because if not, you really need to play GZ first, to understand anything about it.

I've already watched the stories including the timeline of MGS so it's fine.

After having a lot of fun with WH40K: Mechanicus, I decided to get further into the 'verse' and was advised to get Dawn of War I and II, and whaddya know, they were being sold as a bundle for 75% off at the time.

Thoroughly fell in love with I, played through all the expansions... but II is clearly not for me, not sure if I'll ever finish it.

Most recently I bought Sanctus Reach (also at a good discount). So far so good.

II is significantly different than I, much more squad focused and almost no base building (literally no base building in the campaign, in fact). Some people liked that, some didn't.
DoW III is garbage and we don't talk about it.

Meanwhile, what's Mechanicus like? I was between it and Battlefleet Gothic Armada, picked up Armada on sale but it plays just a little too similar to Empire At War for my taste.

Relatively simple tactical turn-based RPG, you control a team of 2-6 customizable Tech Priests + optional generic troops. Missions are like a Choose Your Own Adventure coupled with battles. It's a great game, although the enemy pool/environment is somewhat limited (various types of Necrons and their Tombs) and the DLC doesn't add much.

Also some weapons unlocked in the late game are hideously overpowered and can pretty much clear a battle in 1 turn with the right build (looking at you, Torsion/Heavy Grav Cannon)

As long as it's not a hack n' slash like Inquisitor, I'll definitely give it a go.

    It definitely isn't

Y'know at first I thought Inquisitor and Mechanicus were part of an ongoing series of imperial subfaction-focused games due to the naming lol

Hey, I'm not the only one! I skipped Zestiria btw, but for what I heard Zestiria is like a sequel of Berseria that was done first for some bizarre reason, so skipping it is probably a good idea.

I also recommend you buy Vesperia if you haven't completed it yet, it's a great Tales game worth going through again and it has extra content that wasn't available in the Xbox version.
