I looked it up because it seemed like some sort of reference... and a spider's thread is something akin to a sliver of hope... So, a spider's thread descending to Avici (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avici) would mean whatever evils lurk down there has the opportunity to escape?

But how to explain this to people? :3

Leave it Avici. Times like these, it's best to stay specific and not make up new terms, especially when they are things that already exist in English. Let Nasu have his Asian supernatural stuff. We are not Harmony Gold and Robotech.

I never bothered to ask but I guess now is a good a time as any... does the engine support multiple single byte characters within a single ruby text tag? I should have asked a long time ago. Does it display properly in game?

I suddenly realized that all of "ants" could be crunched over the first letter of "bees". We might need to go back and fix a lot of stuff.

己 here is in the sense of "oneself", not "you". So basically what deaddrunk said about how they're out to kill Avenger (which is themselves). Though I think in the rough draft I was kicking around I went with "a hell that bears the will of humans killing humans" since I had just finished reading through all of Gil's scenes in UBW and that seemed as good a way as any to obliquely reference the fact that the corpses are all chunks of Angra Mainyu.

Yes and yes; no (technical) issues that I'm aware of. If you do it like so;

ins[ruby="ants"]ects

you'll get "ants" (without the quotes) centered above the letter "e". Quotes are highly recommended, and necessary if the text contains spaces.

I don't think we have to say... Anglicize the work... so ruby is OK. I think it adds a nice touch and preserves the idea that it is a Japanese piece. I'm fine with translating ruby into the text though.. using parentheses or dashes or even just directly into the sentence.

I'd go with "ants swarming on honey", because swarming conveys the intended image better than flocking, and because "bees flocking to honey" shows a fucking grievous misunderstanding of bee ecology.
