So whats everyone's prediction on how long the shutdown continues

assuming someone doesn’t buckle before then. Early April or late March. I think someone will cave if the IRS bogs to the point people don’t get their checks.

theoretically IRS is still open but people aren’t getting paid so I hear like half their workforce is calling in

So far the Republicans have always folded during a shutdown. I wonder if Trump's actually going to get the Democrats to fold this time instead.

Well the dems folded a while back on a shut down too.

usually the team that starts losing the PR battle just folds so that they stem the bleeding, this time trump hasn’t so it will be an interesting case study on what happens if the one losing the public just keeps going

If the Democrats fold, it'll (rightly) be a long, long time before anyone trusts them again. I can't see them ever acceding to the pièce de résistance of Trump ideology, even symbolically.

they already folded in so many ways to disastrous consequences im not sure this is the one part where theyll pull the brakes

really the one good outcome i see is that this flips into a general strike and then a month later they play the internationale as the white house burns down

which is of course completely insane and unlikely but were in the timeline where the us government shut down because of a border wall to keep people that mainly use planes to do so from crossing the us border

idk, maybe theres currently a governmental crisis because some advisor thought it would be smart to give the president an anti immigration mnemonic in the form of something tangible that is from a security standpoint irrelevant

mainly because he doesnt like reading speeches

which is now the #1 issue of government funding

I don't know, in light of Trump's tweet, this whole wall thing seems more like a smokescreen than the actual goal.

If anybody here's from Venezuela: I know it amounts to effectively nothing, but do know you're in mine and my family's thoughts. Things are about to get really tough over there, as if they weren't harsh enough already.
