It's less "The West," and more "The Conservatives." To give an anecdotal example, we were actually discussing at work today how things are slow due to the pandemic. My more conservative coworkers believed that it would pick up again in the coming spring and summer, but one of my other coworkers (a fellow from Guatemala, iirc) and I agreed that it'd likely be a year or more before there's an affordable, widely available vaccine with enough saturation to normalize society. Especially since we have confirmed reinfection by the virus.

Mentioning the word vaccine elicited a round of "I'm not getting a vaccine." When the two of us pointed out that the company would likely either require it, or would refuse to pay leave/treatment for it should you opt out, three out of my six coworkers said they would quit rather than take it. And one didn't provide a response at all. Their sentiments are pretty common.

It's not that all of us are idiots about this. But enough of us are that it ruins it for everyone.

I know there are lots of sensible people out there, but news showing people protesting measures to contain the virus while refusing to wear masks just baffles me. The fear of being used as test subjects is understandable, but some reactions just don't.

Actually, wasn't there news of a medicine? Then Trump approved it, and then suddenly, there's side effects, despite the same drug being previously used for other diseases. IIRC, it was hydroxychloroquine.

The alternative is the West letting people run wild. But guess the death toll and number of infected is beautiful to you since it is run under freedom.

Well we won't be seeing them that much anymore, there's always a story the day after about how a bunch of the people protesting masks ended up with Covid. I've stopped counting how many times it's happened. I've just chalked it up to people being contrarian idiots at this point. The one that baffles me is the people who decided three months ago that the best way to celebrate the lockdown being over was to go to a strip club. Over 500 people got it in only a few days.

They're 12th in per capita deaths, that's not good to start with and apparently, them and the US are the only two countries that started high and stayed in the upper numbers. All that "Sweden is doing well" is a lie they're trying to sell to make themselves look better.

I mean if you decided to ignore why hydroxychloroquine wasn't suitable and are actively spreading lies in videos without any actual elaboration I'm not sure why you want people here to consider you as anything other than a waste of space that they have to scroll past on occasion.

Hydroxychloroquine is used for lupus, which is about as similar to a coronavirus as a monkey is to a tyrannosaurus rex. That complaint's akin to saying people suddenly decry toothpaste because your doctor says it's not a valid chemical to rinse an ingrown toenail with.

As an anecdote, my little brother had ADD growing up and the stuff they used to help him focus was basically speed, so anytime my parents went to fill the prescription they got the 4th degree because some salespeople were caught taking the meds intended for their kids because it was easier than finding a meth dealer.

Making up excuses that doctors were apprehensive about masks in one report or another at the start DOES NOT mean to forego masks because you don't like it.
Honestly, I think with the way the last 10 months have gone, there just needs to be some serious critical thinking seminars. Because whoo boy, some people are really malleable to conspiracy theories.

I still cannot fathom why people hate masks so much. It's one thing if I'm asked to use one because I'm "outside" when outside means "the sidewalk next to my home and no one around" but this I genuinely cannot understand.

Same. It seems like it's less a case of a really legitimate reason most of the time, and more that it's mildly annoying, people hate being told what to do or any kind of forced change (especially from a government they often see as "The Enemy") and that a lot of people like to LARP being hardass anti-government rebels and future action-movie heroes.

Somewhat amazingly, this last one is mostly old people, in my experience. Most young folks I know wear their damn masks and give a shit about not catching or infecting others. It's the old codgers that seem to be entitled as hell about this.

It's more the pattern of constantly "evolving" instructions, due to the WHO giving information on a need-to-know basis because the CCP is stuffing their mouths with money. I still remember when masks were "only to prevent people already infected from spreading it to the others" or "it's just like the flu". That being said, "WHO overlords" is not quite accurate, as the WHO is a puppet of the CCP:
