Debatable. Were I to hazard a guess, it'd be that you have a "record," so to speak. Not to mention much of the content you post could be viewed as trolling CCP supporters. Not all, but a lot of it. Regardless of the accuracy of said content. In my case, I think maybe I've been warned once? Not just in the year, or even the history of the current board, but even going back to the Proboards days. I tend not to post things that come across as too provocative or offensive (outside of my questionable fics ), so I suspect I get lighter scrutiny than some. That doesn't mean I should be given a pass, but it's probably a calculation along those lines.

As a devout, if non-practicing, Christian I am honestly baffled by how many churches and religious figures, who should by all rights lead by example, are either whistling Dixie or worse actively suborning efforts to counter the pandemic that is literally taking lives as we speak. Is this the same for the institutions of other religions?

As a devout, if non-practicing, Christian I am honestly baffled by how many churches and religious figures, who should by all rights lead by example, are either whistling Dixie or worse actively suborning efforts to counter the pandemic that is literally taking lives as we speak. Is this the same for the institutions of other religions?

From what I've seen, yes and no. The more traditional and conservative the institution's message is, the dumber the reaction. It's honestly understandable in a way, especially in traditions where God (or the analogue thereof) is seen as granting the faithful protection/magic powers. Add in the idea that the practicing faithful will enjoy a better fate than they're currently living upon death, as well as the greater importance placed on "spiritual development" over physical well-being and a general lack of genuine concern for nonbelievers/rival sects, and their carelessness makes a lot of sense.

Also, since when in my lifetime has the mainline Protestant community in the US been able to morally lead by example? All the scandals, cover-ups, crime, sexual abuse, embezzlement, theft, debauchery, selling of "miracles," racial discrimination, and charlatanry kind of trashed that. Not even counting things that are directly opposed to the actual the teachings of Christ, like the Prosperity Gospel and the constant shut-down of government welfare programs for the actually needy.

I can't agree with the specific church linked above is handling it, but churchgoing is something that many will not give up freely, even in the face of things greatly more dangerous than a pandemic. While it is true that Christians may and are instructed to worship privately, much of the value of churchgoing is the community, something especially important in a time many are suffering. Christians are required to comply with the law of the land, but it has been argued that that is only to the degree that the law is just. By all means, I believe churches should try to space out the seating and request that masks be worn and offer hand sanitizer and so on, and I have seen these practices at the local church, but it would be a disservice for a church to deny those who wish to attend.
